That new "filling station" on the M1

I do sound the horn at anyone on the fast lane going below 70 mph, this is a nuicance.
Funny, I always assume that this is someone telling me there is a problem. So I do the only sensible thing, slow down so that I can safely get into the inside lane. Seems to result in more horn blowing, normally.
My experience is that the hardcore 'fast lane' drivers are in fact causing many of their own problems. The behaviour of sticking in that lane forces slower drivers to get out into the outside lane sooner than they might otherwise need, should an inside lane obstacle occur, simply because outside lane hoggers would otherwise force them to slow down. So, basically, by hogging that outside lane and being aggressive about it, the faster drivers actually slow themselves down.
You might also like to do a bit of reading in the area of statistical research. The above behaviour is in fact statistically accurate - it can be mathematically shown that this sort of behaviour slows the flow of traffic. In the extreme case of drivers failing to move into the inside lane, traffic jams can be demonstrated to occur, without the need for any other variable.Always overestimating...0 -

No but seriously, if you read the link you were sent, you would see that the road works part of this site have now been completed, but there are no plans as yet to build the services. Conversely, the one at the M2 is going ahead before the roadworks, because it has other access.0

I'm still a bit surprised about it going ahead on this stretch of the road considering there are already a number of filling stations along the route though granted not directly "attached" to the motorway..... Sprucefield and Silverwood @ the Lurgan junction spring straight to mind and have more than adequate facilities which will no doubt be far better value than a motorway stop which are usually overpriced...0 -
Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of NI online.0

I've always wondered why they wouldn't expand the motorway out of Belfast out to 3 lanes as far as Sprucefield as a lot of traffic leaves for the A1 and it would just add a bit more capacity as far as there. Mind you, they'd need to something about the Sprucefield junction too to allow traffic flow through there better too.... Nothing a flyover couldn't fix...0
