Ibiza next July

Hi. I have the chance to book flights with BA air miles to a couple of destinations for next July/August. Ibiza, and Verona Italy (for Lake Garda). Will need to be quick off the mark to book them though, as the Majorca ones we were looking at booking disappeared overnight!

I have a few questions. I've never been to Ibiza before, only Majorca
How much would we Expect to pay for a self catering apartment for 9/10 nights. Would be looking to one of the quieter resorts like Portinax or St Eulilea (sp)? Don't want a 'Brits abroad' type resort, so no English breakfasts, or football shirts (shudder) like to be within walking distance to the beach, and bars restaurants.
We would also like to do a couple of trips,- maybe a boat trip, and a water park is a must with a teen!
We would eat out every other night and have breakfast in the apartment, and a snack for lunch. We like a few drinks and cocktails as well in the evening:D
We really don't like to skimp on anything much when we are on holiday, but don't go crazy either.;)
We wouldn't want to hire a car, but use public transport to get around, and taxis where necessacary.

We have another holiday earlier in the year, so would like to know roughly how much we would need to cover spending money for the three of us if we book this.
I was thinking about £1000for a pretty decent apartment, and around £1000-£1,2000spending money for the nine days. Is this realistic, or am I underestimating?
Would be grateful for any advice.

There are so many flights from Britain to Ibiza, you are bound to encounter some Brits and have a 'shudder'.

Perhaps consider some BA flights from LCY to those places in France the Brits haven't heard of.

  • Been to France loads of times thank .richard, and certainly have mastered the art of finding parts of it when the egg and chips brigade don't go.
Now my mission is to find the same for Ibiza:rotfl:
I'm sure they do exist Spent a very happy couple of weeks in Andalusia recently not a football shirt in sight. :D

I've been to Ibiza many times and Sta Eulalia is not very Spanish at all.

  • Thanks Richard. I think I'll wait for some actual responses that are helpful and answers the questions I have asked.

Failing that, Trip advisor is my friend:D

whenever I've looked at apartments in Ibiza for peak times they have been horrendously expensive. Have a look at all the many websites mentioned on here for self catering ie homeaway ownersdirect etc to get an idea and you may get a shock!

Thanks Mel. I've just been browsing a couple of websites we use regularly. It's funny but I thought Ibiza would be similarly priced to the other Balearic Islands which we have been to before, - but you're right, it is very expensive,

We are looking at Lake Garda as well, which I thought would be much pricier, but in actual fact is coming out cheaper, both for self catering and half board in a hotel.
    Will carry on researching. Thanks.

If you're looking for July and August then you will find that it is quite expensive in Ibiza. The problem, as such, is that it is a relatively small island and most resorts are within no more than an hours drive from each other making the smaller resorts still appealing for the more discerning clubbers. Ibiza is quite different to the other balearic islands in my opinion and definitely has a more discerning vibe to it, lots of people like to say that they have holidayed in Ibiza as you can easily avoid the brits abroad places if you wish.

You could find an apartment for £100 a night in the quieter resorts if you wish, but whether or not it would be to a 'decent' standard is a matter of opinion.

As others have said try looking at private rentals if you want more space and privacy, or try the usual suspects of Travel Republic, Hotels4U, Sunshine.co.uk, Alpha Rooms etc for more touristy apartments.

Santa Eulalia is a great resort for restaurants and laid back nights (as you say cocktails are easy to find) but avoid San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa if you don't want to see many brits. Portinax, Puerto San Miguel, Cala San Vicente and possibly even Port d'es Torrent or Talamanca would be ok too. Or for even more of a spanish vibe look at San Rafeal or San Juan but they may be far too quiet for a teenager.
    Lea

There are some BA flights from LCY to Menorca MAH, that may be cheaper and more chance of avoiding Brits.

  • Santa Eulalia would be perfect if you like somewhere a bit upmarket and cosmopolitan. Avoid Es Cana, San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa. Portinatx is picturesque but very small and isolated. If you are relying on public transport, I would avoid this area of the island. July is very busy which is why we don't go at this time, although the same is true of nearly everywhere. I hope you do get to Ibiza some time, as it is a magical place, and the only place which draws me back every year.
