  • opinions please. 4 weeks ago I found £100 in an ATM machine directly outside a Tesco. I waited 15 mins then had to get back to work so I handed it in at the customer service in Tesco. they gave me a receipt and advised me to call in, saying that after 28 days and if it remained unclaimed then I could claim it.
I was really hopeful that this would be claimed by rightful owner as it is such a large sum of money to lose.
anyway after calling in frequently time passed. on Wednesday I called in to Tesco and asked had it been claimed. no. can I claim it? no. why? cos 28 days is not 4 weeks or a calendar month (same customer service person who advised me to claim!) anyway its not February, if it was I could claim she said. after lengthy discussion she checked with "upstairs", no I could not claim until 6 weeks. I left.
( in addition the security guard told me to be very careful as atm as camera and I maybe accused of stealing.)

role on to today. thought customer service did not know what she was talking about so went back in. only to be advised it is now 3 months wait. I told them to make there minds up 28 days, one month, 6 weeks,. now 3 months. here is the cruncher. AFTER 3 MONTHS IF NOT CLAIMED THEY DONATE IT TO THERE CHARITY OF CHOICE!

I have rang head office (useless) he said it is 6 weeks but it is up to store if they give it to me or donate to charity.

my plan is to wait 6 weeks and try again. what do you think, advise

    Hi snap

I think she will settle in and have a great time. Lots is laid on for freshers in the first couple of weeks to keep the students busy so they don't have too much time to feel homesick. And they also mix a lot during these weeks to help everyone meet new peeps and make friends.

My DD is in her final year at Swansea and has loved it - great student community. And I have really enjoyed weekends away in the town and out to the Gower :j. Lovely part of the world.

    :T:T:T

Yes she is doing good already - she went out last night with others from her accommodation block

Her Mum is already thinking of moving nearer

Go and ask for it back, tell them you wish to hand it in to the local police station as you think that any customer would have claimed it by now and it may have just been someone that just wanted to use the cash machine.

Tell them also that they are reneging on the contract they made to hand it to you after 28 days if it had not been claimed.

If it were me I would wonder what had happened to it, I would possibly even take the matter up with the police anyway, tell them what has happened and tell them that you believe that they wish to keep it for themselves rather than hand it to the rightful owner.

Out of curiosity was the 28 days on the receipt? They simply cannot keep moving the goalposts like that.

I found a ring, gold with some stones in it, and handed it in at the local police station. After 28 days it had not been claimed and they gave it to me.

  • thanks for the reply. I have not looked at the receipt in detail, but it was the same customer service person who told me 28 day then tried to educate me as to what that meant i.e 4 weeks or one calendar month, and apparently the month we were in made a difference.

as for donating to charity, that is up to me ( I am going to mcmillen coffee morning 27th September) she said today it was Tesco policy to donate when unclaimed. so why give me a receipt at all? why not tell me that when I gave it in? they make you feel like a criminal.

im all for donating to charity, but to whom and how much should me my choice. not theirs/
