I answered earlier. They aren't legal tender and never have been......ever! This country only recognises Bank of England notes as legal tender......who knows what will happen to Scottish banknotes? if it a YES tomorrow folks, go and empty your cash machines of shiny new notes. They might just become a rare commodity ;)

Now, there's a reason for vote for independence if no other!:D:T:T

But, more seriously, regarding the majority of your post (for clarity, that ends with your question mark), that was my understanding too.

I suspect Scottish notes will continue as they do now, and be accepted and be currency/tender/not currency/not tender as they are now. The country (Scotland) would use the pound. That may be in Bank of England notes, just like it is now. So - nothing to fear about losing the pound!

What is the legal position regarding Scottish and Northern Ireland banknotes?
Banknotes issued by the authorised banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland are legal currency and
can be accepted throughout the United Kingdom. They are authorised and approved by the UK
Parliament, a position that was established by legislation as long ago as 1845 and has
been reinforced more recently by Part 6 of the Banking Act 2009.

edit: you keep adding bits Savvy :p
No, no bank notes are legal tender in Scotland.

That was my understanding. However, generally people in the rest of the UK might be reluctant to accept Scottish bank notes on the basis that they are unfamiliar and therefore unsure if they are genuine.
I think a normal approach by a retailer might be to bank these notes rather than give them as change to customers.

In which case, those banks (being moved now to be registered in England) would have the protection of the Bank of England and the problem would fall to the 'rest of the UK' government. A smart move on behalf of Mr Salmond some might say.

Seriously, even if there were a run on the banks, independence would not happen immediately the day after a vote for independence were announced (besides the fact that's likely to be a Saturday:p). I think this is just, for want of a better word - scaremongering.

Rest assured, your savings are safe. Banks still have the protection of the compensation scheme arrangements and are still backed by the Bank of England.

EDIT: The whole gist of the article (now I've reached that after the detail:D:rotfl:) is about the contingency plans they are making/have made to avoid that 'doomsday' scenario. So, rest assured, they already - as have the banks themselves - have set up contingency plans to protect their own interests* and the economy and are well equipped to deal with the possibility of independence should the Scottish voters vote for that.

We were chatting, about far more important things, and I forgot this womble from earlier (17/9):

No it's not great news that A were cheapest but not 10% cheaper:mad::mad::mad:.

Look at how much that Persil lost vs Morries:mad::
    1 x Persil Small & Mighty Biological Laundry Liquid - ...£5.00£9.99

And how a nice comparison on the Pukka Pie and a good comparison on the D&Bs were lost:(:

2 x ASDA Chosen by You Dandelion & Burdock Sugar Free ...£1.20£0.90
    (Bold =mbuy)

I thought some of the Robinsons were 89p in M but look at this:
1 x Robinsons Orange & Pineapple Squash with No Added ...£1.25£1.49
1 x Robinsons Summer Fruits Squash with No Added Sugar...£1.25£1.49
with the unwanted mbuy deduction (£1.59 each, 2 for £2.50:( in A).

Really expensive beans in Sains. - 90p for the equivalent of a 400g can:eek:.

:eek:I sound more rushed than I am and far more mad than I actually am!:D:D:rotfl:

Goodnight folks! Hope the comparison helps!:) (Even though - Morries comparison set to change very soon again. I did have an earlier receipt - but nothing really to mention from it as Morries prices soon to change anyway - just some Kipling cakes Almond £1 in M but comparison vs £1 available vs other competitors than M anyway.)
