Well you should know if I am left alone where I will stray.

:hello: Hi there!:D Well:rotfl: when I left this thread probably an hour or so ago [goes and checks - no, about two hours ago:eek:], I then later went on to manage to spot on the BBC News Channel the exact moment at which BBC ONE was joining them:D:D:rotfl:, I went and 'rewound' BBC ONE on the 'live' i-Player and found I was correct (as usual!:D:p:rotfl::rotfl::cool::rotfl:), I happened to notice an earlier programme from the evening and just been and watched it. It is the 21Up Generation programme - typically I like factual things and not much fond of fiction:o:rotfl: - episode 2 - I've not been watching the earlier ones or seen it until now.

One of the children, now adults, that they have been following is Talan. When I saw him with a personal assistant at school (I never had problems like that), I thought I wonder if he has autism (you can see where this is leading:D, but bear with me!) and, when he mentioned social interaction, I knew it was going to mention Asperger's later and it did.
I just had to have a bit of a chuckle:laugh: though, a part about 47 minutes in, where he talks about socialising like everyone else*. It seemed he mentioned something about shotguns, seems like a special interest of his (but as part of legitimate things such as clay-pigeon shooting and the like rather than anything more sinister) - his 'joke' about shotguns seemed to me to fall flat and none of the others around him at that table appeared to show any interest at all. I suspect perhaps his 'special interest' bored everyone else and he was totally unaware of it, unable to receive body language that says "I am bored"+.
The vast majority of people communicate through body language and eyes and I could then see the others around him, when standing up later very briefly shown chatting to each other (I picked up on that tiny brevity you see:D), they were doing that (communicating by body language and eyes, a bond that binds everyone else together to each other) but Talan walking there, left out. I felt perhaps I'd describe him there as walking around like a wet weekend. A bit like me. Exactly like me. I know exactly that feeling - and it's because no radio receptor or transmitter possessed by me to communicate via eye contact or transmit or receive subconscious body language. There I am, folks, a wet weekend:D! They gave him the last word on the programme too.
But, hey, while that 'wet weekend' (sometimes-like-that) person is there&, also by same token has far better perception than others in some other areas, and it's that person, with the very good and excellent memory, that collects and brings you those Morries items and prices twice a week. So there are the benefits there too - and I'll think about getting out and about and doing other things too:D:D, thank you very much!:rotfl::rotfl: No, I shouldn't stereotype myself or others 'on the spectrum', and I'm sure if you take this post, even literally even:rotfl:, it would be a very misleading impression - we're all different!
Alright, goodnight then - and I'll be back at some time today!:):) (I'm actually much less of a 'wet weekend' I feel at my age now.)
* I'm not making fun of him - just recognising something in him a bit like me, and I found it slightly amusing:doh: (I'm permitted to do that aren't I?).
+ I've done that - talked to people, ney, talked through people, totally unaware I'd gone on incessantly to the point of boredom (to them) about my highly interesting (to me) specialist topic, followed them around:eek:, continued talking on and on (sounds far more sinister than it actually is - the person in question, we both later found out I had Asperger's, was okay - and it wasn't stalking or anything of that nature). Ah well, not everyone can share my enthusiasm!:(:rotfl::rotfl:
& Perhaps like wandering round a little "lost". And lost because - (1) brain processing, takes a little more time for the social situation to be processed and can't think of what to say; and (2) no bond of body language/eye signals being received and therefore lost slightly (or slightly more than slightly) because of that. No bondage you see:rotfl:. There, I thought I'd end up saying that!:D:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::j :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

:T I find it really interesting to read your perspective on things Savvy. I have taught many a child on the spectrum and also have a few friends with children on the spectrum so it's interesting to hear how you feel about it or perceive things to be. I guess that as an adult you're more able to explain things as you've had longer to process and reflect upon the differences in how your mind works. Thanks for posting.0 -
