Emma, another way to get to Amsterdam is the ferry, but it does mean a long drive to the North East. Its quite cheap, and includes 2 nights on the ferry. Getting up north would put your price up a bit though.

2 nights on the ferry

Does it circumvent the British Isles :)

Surely it can't be that far from (I'm guessing) Hull?

How do you pronounce "Frijj" btw? Is it the same as "Fridge"?

    I pronounce it with a silent 'd' - frige

It's like PRImark, over here it was always PREmark but the last time I rang (shortly after it started getting more publicity from celebrities) I got the " hello PRImark, Suzie Speaking ......"

I can't beat 27 hour bus trip to Poland but we have done some exciting magical mystery tours.

One memorable trip started with the normal 4 hour train trip to Southampton, change at Stafford, overnight at West Quay Premier inn.
We then went on a cruise ship which was doing a repositioning trip so from Southampton we set off, one sea day, one day in Dublin. On day 3 we docked, taxi to the train station, train into Glasgow, walk across Glasgow to the other station on a very quiet Sunday morning. We then got the Edinburgh train.
In Edinburgh we waved eldest child off on her train to York.
We had a lovely day in Edinburgh and stayed the night at the travelodge in Princess Street.
Next morning we set off again, train to Newcastle where we changed trains.
Where were we off to - back all the way down to Southampton :rotfl:
So about 7 hours later we arrived - I think we stayed at PI again.
Next day we went on a ships visit, had lunch onboard and got very jolly on the free flowing wine :D
Afterwards we got the taxi back to the station for the finAl leg of the round Britain tour, 4 hour trip back up north via Birmingham. That was about 2.30 in the afternoon.

    Except it wasn't

We only got as far as Banbury outside oxford and the train made a dreadful noise. I said to OH that wasn't good - it wasn't. We had had a cattle strike.
Eventually our train was dragged back into Oxford at 10 at night - 7 hours on a sweltering train, no food or drink and no trains north or at least nothing going further than Birmingham.
So we ended up in the travelodge in Oxford that night and finally got home the next afternoon
The only saving grace was Youngest son was still living at home so we didn't have to worry about the cats :)

One night there, one night back, silly :p It leaves about 5pm and you get into Amsterdam for about 9am. From North Shields. Hull takes you to the wonderful Brugge.

Did you go to Auschwitz while you were there?

Even though I've been, it still doesn't seem real in some ways. That place is just so hard to describe in any kind of words.
It was hard for OH as both his grandparents died there :(

Oh that is awful :(:( I went about 10 years ago. A respect paying trip with work. There are no words to describe it :( it's best left unsaid. :( just so terrible. I'm not sorry I went though. It does no harm to actually feel the reality.
I love all the ways we remember our fallen with poppies etc. and we should remember the other countries that lost as much as ours in equally terrible ways :A

Not sure of the correct pronunciation Savvy, I would guess 'fridge'

Although I always say 'frigid' in my head :o

My next shopper did a good shop, as everything not 10% cheaper than T!

Strange one in a way, as A is cheapest but, everything was bought correctly, even though T more expensive, as the Famous Grouse vs £14 deducts £1.40 and therefore is cheaper than A's £13 so, rightly, would be against T. At last I have a shop that included alcohol working for me!

As you know, I like no losses/offsets on the APG, and for everything that is comparable to be not 10% cheaper. Preferably to be cheaper - or even all the cheapest - at one specific elsewhere, but we can't have everything I suppose! A 'no loss' from the APG for once...

That's not to say T is best comp. on everything:(:rotfl: - the chicken fillets, in the circumstances, would be best vs S (3 at £10.65) as would the Nivea (£3.50:eek: S). But I'm happy with the APG not being subtracted from.
