Woodman Stove (ex back boiler)

Hi
We have just taken a gas conversion out of our Woodmann Stove, no instructions - but can tell it used to have a back boiler attached. I read about opening the bottom and top air vents for wood burning - but cannot see a bottom vent.
We have a rear grate rattler on this, is this when open the bottom air vent?
Karl, Derby
