Hmmmm.... I am intruiged now. My husband has the same phone (bought at same time) and his phone shows he can send 160 characters. Mine now shows 70. Is it a simple setting that can be adjusted?0

Go to the SMS settings menu 5.5 and then Character support.Character support: select a character encoding type. If you select Auto, the phone switches the encoding type from GSM-alphabet to Unicode if you enter an unicode character. Use of Unicode encoding will reduce the maximum number of characters in a message to about half.
