Does anyone know if the 6230 is any good as an mp3 player? I want a new phone and an mp3 player. Would this be a good way of combining the 2, or would 2 separate devices be better? I only want the mp3 player for trips to london every couple of weeks

Thanks for any help

it does work but sound quality aint great and you would need a decent size mem card to get a few tunes on. (phone is great though)
would be better to get one of the usb flash drives that also work as mp3 player as you can pick up a 512mb one quite cheap now

I use it as an MP3 player, I really like it. I got a modified handsfree so I could use my own headphones, which really helped too.

Worth getting a bigger memory card - say 256MB or 512MB (should cost around £30 on ebay), as that will let you put all the songs you need on it.

Its functions as MP3 player are quite limited, but still good enough IMO.

The sound quailty is down to the headphones or phone speaker that you listen to the mp3's on.They aint too bad and are very listenable.Depending on how many songs you wanted to store on the card etc but if you ask yourself how much you would use an MP3 player is it worth the extra expense to fork out for one when a 6230 or the new 6230i with an upgraded memory card and you could always treat yourself to a good set of headphones and a desktop speaker system and even use your favorite song stored on your memory card as your ringtone. It's up to you what you want out of your gadgets but i would try the phone first. If you have a phone on a new contract, you have a 2 week cooling off period to return it if you find it not up to satisfaction :)

I can't seem to get more than a few albums on a 1Gb card for this phone without it complaining there's no memory to store photos and videos. You need to hook it to your pc and use software to create playlists really, as you can't select a folder e.g. an album and play - only 1 song at a time. Sound is very good.

    Thanks for the comments

if I put songs or videos or whatever onto a memory card, not in folders, will that work ok? And what software will i need to create playlists. I think i will go with the phone as then it will definately get use, whereas an mp3 player might end up in the bottom of a drawer gathering dust.

Will a 6230 or 6230i play songs in a random order or only in the order they are on the disk?

I got one of those to double as am MP3 BUT I found it awkward jumping between tracks (i.e. no quick jump to next track)

It was stop track - back to menu - manually scroll to next track - select it and then play - NOT easy whilst out running !!!

There may have been a shortcut i missed

Floged it on ebay for enough to cover costs on contract (card works in an old phone so still get the mins and txts)

    All the best

The nokia website says that the 6230i only supports up to 512MB MMC cards.
