New speeding tactic

  • Is it like one of those Facebook hoaxes about the new sneakily hidden gray speed catching devices at the side of the motorway? The same hoax that has been rearing it's head for last 5 years?

I've seen it reported that the plod are now using unmarked cars with roof boxes fitted and inside is the radar kit with a small hole at the front for the camera

Why go to all that effort when all they need is a small dash mounted camera linked to the ANPR database and other calibrated recording kit. Anyone speeding is hardly likely to notice that.

Freelander doesnt sound like a traffic car.

I didn's say it was a traffic car. It was 100% an unmarked car, I know the plate - i've seen it on the side of the road with the blues on.

Agreed, it is more likely to be Nightscan kit (or similar) that can be deployed at the scene of RTC's to illuminate the area. Also useful on a 4x4 if searching out in the wilds.

Unmarked police cars stop members of the public all the time as long as the officers are in uniform.

Not pull people for traffic offenses if not traffic plod unless borderline suicidal.

Why do you think only "traffic" police should deal with motoring offences?

There is no distinction in law between motoring and other criminal offences.

Do you suppose "traffic" policemen go around ignoring assaults, murders, etc?

Nope but I have seen em ignoring traffic offenses. Cid or whoever the unmarked car is will have they own stuff to do, unless it is traffic.
