I've seen it reported that the plod are now using unmarked cars with roof boxes fitted and inside is the radar kit with a small hole at the front for the camera

Where have you seen it reported?
Optimists see a glass half full :)
Pessimists see a glass half empty :(
Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be :D
  • But motorists also have a sneaky trick to avoid Mr Plod's tricks. It's just a matter of sticking to the speed limits. Devious I know, but it can save you £££'s. :D

Makes you wonder why nobody thought of it before.

TBH OP, I was following an unmarked car (freelander) week before last and I was trying to work out what the small box mounted on the roof rack was. It was about the size of a 4pack of coke. Could be the thing you are on about?

I know it's an unmarked plod car because I've seen it pull someone over on my commute.

Much the same reliability as the Daily Mail.

The story I saw was an unmarked car but with uniformed officer and hand held speed gun inside. No mention of roof mounted boxes.

It must be a really big roof box or a really small traffic officer.
