Panasonic TX-42AS520B v TX-40AS640B

Options
Hi

Have looked http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televisions/large-screen-tvs-32-and-over/panasonic-viera-tx-42as520b-smart-42-led-tv-22083518-pdt.html
Before, was waiting for price to drop back to £399

But this one http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televisions/large-screen-tvs-32-and-over/panasonic-viera-tx-40as640b-smart-3d-40-led-tv-22094678-pdt.html was at £450 slightly smaller now back up to £549

Price goes up and down on these!!
Can anyone tell me if its worth paying £50 plus more to get the 40" ??
Thanks

  • I don't think Curry's should be your benchmark for price comparison as they are amongst the most expensive TV retailers.

Only you can decide if you want a 40" TV or not.

40 inch TV is smaller, but costs more. What does it give you over the 42?
It adds 3D and two sets of glasses, possibly more up to date 'smartness', but they both do catch up for the main channels, both have WiFi built in, it adds an HDMI port (and ARC which is useful if you have an amplifier).
So it's a smaller but slightly cleverer TV, but I wouldn't pay £150 (when I looked) more for it. You can buy lots of set top boxes for that price!

Thanks only looking at currys as I get 8% off and the 42" had freetime

Thanks, looking at 40" as it is 3d, voice activated and is 1200hz etc would not pay £150 more but if it was substantially better than the 42" would consider the extra £50 when it drops again as currys do every couple weeks

Curry's should not be the only retailer to choose from. There are better deals available elsewhere, even with 8% off.

Richer Sounds will beat any local price and any online which includes delivery .

They won't beat them by as much as 8%.

3d, voice activated and is 1200hz etc

What 3D content are you going to watch?
Voice activated sounds like a gimmick unless you're certain you'll use it and
1200Hz doesn't impress me since UKTV is broadcast at 50Hz, and films are 24FPS.
The extra HDMI port is the only thing that would get me if it's only between these 2 TVs, unless you alsolutely must have one of the features above, go for the cheaper, bigger one.

Indeed, but other retailers are more than likely selling the item far far cheaper than Curry's in the first place.

Richer Sounds include a five year guarantee with their TV's, as do John Lewis. Might be worth factoring this into consideration of price too.
Curry's charge extra for extended warranties.
