    Far kinder to be truthful, tell her that you feel that the relationship has run it's course and wish her well for the future. But you have to tell her face to face. Harsh but fair.

    Like ripping off a plaster, you need to do it quickly and clearly (don't leave any potential FWB options on the table). Ideally somewhere you can have a private chat and then she can leave if she wants to (ie she doesn't have to stay for an awkward and painful dinner).

    This. Stop dragging it out, if you get it done it hurts but you move on. Give a genuine reason so that she doesn't keep wondering why for days/weeks. What makes it worse is thinking you didn't even deserve an honest explanation or that you managed to pick a guy who is a coward or cruel. It's really thoughtful to consider the time and location; not while she's at work or got somewhere she has to be, not too public, at her home or somewhere she can leave if upset, etc.
    Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
