I've been looking for a cheap phone for some time. I have a sim-only contract so only needed the phone. I've been pursuing the 8 gb moto G at £59 for a couple of weeks with no success. They are still advertising it in my local Tesco, but it isn't available and according to the staff it is unlikely to be back in stock.

So I've purchased the new 4g one at £135 on Tesco PAYG and got a £1.99 unlock code from Ebay. It's all good so far, and appears to have some slight differences from my wife's 16gb older one.

Indeed it is slightly different in that it has LTE connectivity and an SD card slot. Physically identical, though.
  • I am currently using this handset and very impressed. So far so good!
I have enough money to last me the rest of my life... unless I buy something.

Sorry - that's not what I meant. I know about the differences in 4g and the SD slot. I meant in the software. In particular my one has something called spotlight player, which my wife doesn't have.

    It has that app- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.avatar&hl=en_GB
because of a hardware difference -- the 4g has a gyroscope so is able to use spotlight player and other apps which need a gyroscope to position the phone and stitch photos together.
    Gyroscope, SD slot, 4G radio.

Cool thanks very much. I hadn't seen that anywhere else!

The Moto G 4G LTE gets a good review at GSMArena.com.
