Tesco Direct - faulty exchanges

    According to JJG Amazon did replace a Kindle that had been purchased from Tesco.

    My iPod broke after 3 months and my local Apple store replaced it even though I had bought it elsewhere.

    The Kindle and many Apple products are actually manufactured by the same,unrelated, company. :)

    That is correct. Amazon had amazing customer service for my Kindle which I purchased from TESCO direct. Amazon provide a one year warranty on the kindle, and in my experience sent me out a new one before I had even returned the broken one. It has to be one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. This was 1.5 years ago but I don't think things have changed in that regard.
  • Tesco direct are a nightmare. Ordered a beautiful birdcage mirror from them and it took them no less that 4 attempts before they managed to get me one that wasn't shattered to pieces. :(

  • If it wasn't for the Clubcard Bonus I wouldn't have even considered them.
    I ordered a 32Gb Black iPad from them a year or so ago. Went to pick it up... was handed a brown cardboard box. Got home and opened it to find a White 16Gb iPad inside. Took it back where they pretty much accused me of trying to con them.

    Back to the Kindle.. I assumed that as it was brand new, just opened, Amazon would have directed me back to Tesco.. otherwise I'd have definately gone there first.
  • Heres the reason why they couldn't exchange the one you bought from Direct with one from the store:
    As they have different providers, they have different stock. Every Kindle has its own retailer serial number, if you pick up one of the big empty cardboard boxes that you take to a till to buy a Kindle, once you pay for it, you might notice that they have to match that box's serial with the same serial on the real slimmer box containing the Kindle. Every store stock Kindle has a display counterpart, give one of those as an exchange then they will be up one display box on the system and as the store and Direct run off different systems, the missing Kindle counterpart of that 1 box won't show up when the store do a stock check.

    DH bought me a Kindle about 2 years ago, but this was Tesco instore not direct. It stopped working the following day.
    Took it back to Tesco who argued it had to be sent back to Amazon. DH called Amazon from instore and Amazon said Tesco could replace the Kindle and return the faulty unit to them, they even provided us with a return code to give to Tesco.
    After some argument and pointing out that our contract was with them they finally agreed to replace, called Amazon, redeemed the code and handed me a new Kindle.
