Tesco Direct - faulty exchanges

Options
What a farce.

Bought a Kindle Paperwhite last week for a birthday today.
Collected instore.

Opened today and it has a fault with the backlight. One corner of the 'paperwhite' display is blue.

So takes it back into store to find they can't just swap it over for a new one. They have to send it back to Direct.. and get Direct to send a new one out.. so I can go and pick it up again.
She had a new one there... that they sell instore. On the counter. There. But couldn't give it me. Even she admitted it was ridiculous.

No wonder they're losing money and customers.

Tesco direct is run as basically a seperate company to main stores, hence why often prices and offers are completely different. My question to you is, why did you buy through direct to collect in store, if the store sold the item? why not just by in store in the first place?

  • Its the same with many retailers that the online side and store run independently. The other option would have been to return for a refund and buy directly from the store.

Not really worth it now though - sometimes it's just easier to forgoe bonuses etc to have a 'simple' purchase. :)

It's a shame you took it back to TESCO. If you had contacted amazon they would've posted a new one out to you next day delivery, and supplied a returns label to be picked up at your convenience. That's what happened with my TESCO purchased kindle when it broke. Much quicker and easier than dealing with TESCO.

I was querying the previous post as the retailer is responsible for the replacement not the manufacturer. I'm pretty sure that Kindle is an Amazon trade mark but doubt if they manufacture so wouldn't have thought Amazon would have replaced a faulty Kindle that they didn't supply to the end user.

Many companies don't manufacture the goods themselves but are still considered the manufacturer, after all they designed the product. Apple don't manufacture iPhones but you can still return an iPhone under warranty to an Apple store and they will replace it even if bought elsewhere.

You may well not have thought it, but it has been reported that Amazon have done just that.

    Here is one example:
