Hi guys, in a nutshell:
Can we get any financial help anywhere - i have read you can top up NI but only class 3 which wont help a JSA claim
Anyone have any ideas, much appreciated for any help
- Wife attended uni for 2 yrs
- Wife left uni, applied for JSA contribution based - refused as had not paid enough class 1 NI
- No point applying for JSA income based as i earn £40k
- Therefore my wages pay rent, bill etc and its tight

Um, tell your wife to get a job? Make some cut backs in your spending until she gets a job (the Debt Free Wanabee and Old Style boards are excellent).0

With you on 40k you're not going to be able to get much help.
Only help you would get would be based on any children you had or any disabilities.0 -
You earn enough to get by...it might be really tight supporting 2 people on that wage so you'll need to either kick her out or make some cut backs.Hi guys, in a nutshell:- Wife attended uni for 2 yrs

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Hey Guys
She is volunteering for a very useful org at the mo for a while until they offer her work. Therefore in the meantime just looking for any help financially.
we are not familiar with the benefits system as we have never much needed it due to working at all times, therefore any useful pointers are most welcome, thanks0 -
Hey Guys
Not asking for your opinions on how/what to do - in actual fact my wife is volunteering for a very good cause so thanks for nothing.
However, if you can impart some useful advice i would be very appreciative.
Budget
JSA for a couple is £113.
You are earning much much much more than that.0 -
Youre earning an absolute fortune man....

So she isn't actually looking for work as far as the DWP would be concerned, so wouldnt get JSA anyway.
If you are really in dire straights she would need to get a proper paying job, not just volunteer somewhere she fancies working on the offchance they start paying her.
If she can afford to do that, you do not need benefits.0 -
I have worked and paid into the system for 44 years, when I lost my job last year I was able to claim contribution based JSA, when that finished I was not entitled to income based JSA because my Husband got his state pension, a pension that he worked 45 years to get including paying enhanced NI contributions in the 90s, that and a small annuity took as five pounds over the amount the law says we need to live on as a couple.
Luckily even at age 59 and in an unemployment black spot I got a job.
When you and your GF have worked as long and paid in as much as me and hubby then you can complain that you don't get any benefits0 -
hi guys
no one is complaining and sometimes in certain professions you have to volunteer as that is valued more than qualifications - that's how it roles and we understand that. Also, yes budgeting is a valid pointer but we have outgoings as much as anyone else. Advice such as getting a job etc is not what i asked for. Being that i do earn a little above the average, makes me somewhat reasonably smart somehow- But, i don't know the system so well and looked for your advice, not your opinions. I think you have confirmed what i knew but its always worth asking even if some people prefer to judge. thankfully, i dont take those people seriously. thank you all
