Curious to know what ex demo / pre-reg larger cars can be bought for less than the price of a citycar?
And whilst you might "save" a few quid on road tax, i doubt a larger car is going to be more economical on fuel?
Also, people dont just buy a small car for cheap tax. Its all associated running costs - fuelling, servicing, maintenance, ease of parking and general convenience.
Quite happy that people buy the size of car they want and need, rather than a bigger less efficient one.0 -
Have been looking at Ford KA, Skoda Citigo, SEAT Mii, Kia Picanto, Suzuki Alto, so totally confused:(
Each time I think I like one and decided that is it, I read some bad review about it.
Totally agree with the comment about buying a car less than a year old from a private seller - I mean, why would they be selling it?
Mii and Citigo are essentially the same car.
Kia Picanto seem a good enough car too.
Personally for me the KA doesnt deliver - not as cutesy as the original, bigger but not offering as much space as rivals.
Suzuki Alto - not a great car, not in the league of the others.
Check out sites like honest john for reviews - might help you decide.0 -
Budget?
How about something bigger?
Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 petrol with App Pack: £12495 (£17495 retail). I guess this is a runout price, a facelifted model is due next month.
Great car for a great price, but a full two sizes above what the O/P is looking at with an engine 60% bigger, and i suspect 50-75% above budget based on what else they're looking at.0 -
My budget is max £6,500/£7,000 and I really want a small car as I feel far more comfortable driving something small (and parking it of course).
I keep coming back to the Ford KA and having checked out Autotrader (as posted on here) there are some 14 plates for under £7,000. Trouble is so many people are saying that the new ones aren't a patch on the old ones, which I must admit does put me off.
Also I keep looking at the Volkeswagen trio of Citigo, Mii and Up but wonder if these would cost a fortune for servicing/spare parts etc.
Of course the benefit of a Ford is relatively cheap parts - perhaps better the devil you know? Also a bit more power under the bonnet.
When I buy a car I keep it for at least 9/10 years, so what number is on the plate doesn't really bother me. I do like a few years warranty though.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
A new 1.0 Corsa for around £10k, £30 road tax, lifetime warranty, cheap servicing, comfortable and easy to drive.
Wife has had one 2 years no problems whatsoever

Hyundais and Kias have nice long warranties.
Even if you buy a 3yr old exmotability car with few miles you will still have several years of warranty left.
I asked a Met Copper a couple of years ago what they thought of the little i30 that fleet had bought for them.
He said it was a bit small, dragged its !!!! when loaded up with Plod and he preferred the Astra and Focus.
But they are seriously robust so far.
Many of them were on 11plates and they are still being screamed round London.
The first lot were a run out of the last shape so would have been very cheap.
But i have seen the Met have bought some new shape ones, mainly for CID and local community plod.
Have a look at soms of these early shape i30 that have come back from motability lease as many as hardly used and effectively new.
And their size is not huge like other cars in the class.
But if you really like a Ka sized car then go for a Fiat 500.
The Ka is based on the 500 floorpan but had wider engine choice.
Glyn Hopkin regularly does pre.reg deals on the 500 and Panda.
Usually the 1.2 in a base spec.
And they are not far from your £7k budget.
Fiat 500 does have good residuals at least so far.0 -
