I am still looking to change my old Ford Ka and looking for a bargain replacement.

Thought there would be loads around with the new 64 plate coming out next week, but can't see anything outstanding.

Just want good mpg, low tax and reliability.

Nearly new, ex demo or pre-reg, something like that.

You'll just have to check the likes of autotrader, or each dealers site.

Dont assume nearly new, pre-reg or ex demo are necessarily cheaper though - often they're pre-facelift cars, or an old trim or engine spec, or on the previous reg plate - all of which will impact the value of it come resale time.

Also, manufacturers often have deals on like complementary spec upgrades or finance incentives that you wont get on a pre-reg or ex demo.

    Whats your car in mind?

The ultimate budget bargain these days is probably something like a Dacia Sandero, but maybe you're looking for a mainstream brand?

188 Ford Ka's less than 1 year old on the Autotrader website.

Not many people out there will swap a 14 plate for a 64 plate.

So your looking at pre-reg and ex demo cars.

If it was a private owner and under 1 year old i would wonder if its a lemon.

The days of dealers needing rid of part exchanges etc has long gone.

Even at auction dealers in need of good stock are paying over CAP clean for the good stuff.

And also small economical are in demand so hold their value well due to this demand.

Wifes Clio was bought at 3yrs old at CarGiant, from memory £5800 inc indemnity fee.

With an extra 80k or so on the clock it is likely to still be worth £2500.

Which isn't bad for 5yrs of use.

Better deals are at Car Supermarkets like Motorpoint, Fords of Winsford and CarGiant.

Compare all the prices and you will have a car that will give you a few good years.

And if you keep it in good order the good residuals of smaller cars will work in your favour.

The caveat, imho, is to ensure it is not a colour that can be affected by changing fashion like bright yellow and aircon is a must.

I would always go for 5doors aswell.

Ford Direct will have dozens of cars coming off hire in the next couple of months. Max 12 months old and 10,000 miles.

Have been looking at Ford KA, Skoda Citigo, SEAT Mii, Kia Picanto, Suzuki Alto, so totally confused:(

Each time I think I like one and decided that is it, I read some bad review about it.

Totally agree with the comment about buying a car less than a year old from a private seller - I mean, why would they be selling it?

Probably. It depends how much deposit you put down and the loan period.
