Surely if the MOT was fake he wouldn't have been able to insure the car?

How did you come to that conclusion?

What likely not center has run the test and its passed the test anyway without the cat it will read high but they can pass without the cat fitted.

There are idiots wout there who thin decating will increase porformance it doesn't.
If its a corsa c it dead easy to see if the cat there or not exhaust. The exhaust manifold comes off the front of engine just follow it down and see if it bulges out for the cat.. Its part of the manifold.

Finally had the damage to car repaired through local garage of my choice. They have checked the exhaust and have confirmed, as others have mentioned, that the Cat is present, within the manifold. They even ran it through the MOT emmissions test and all good. Am going to be sending a very strongly worded letter to ATS head office! And, will never, ever consider going to them in future.
The garage also said that the exhaust fitted makes no difference to the performance and have given a letter to this efect to me so that I can let the insurance company know.
    Panic over...:j

Not if it should be subject to a full cat emissions test, and one was fitted as standard.

I was about to say you're wrong, but you're not!
    When did they change that?
This was always wrongly misquoted on forums.
I used to do mots, few years out of date with it all now.
  • So, a car can pass an MOT without a cat converter?

    All diesel cars do. :)
  • Diesels have cats too :)

Sounds like a lot of faith is being put in to ATS' opinion.

Quite disgusting that ATS would prey on an individuals misfortune and try to rip them off despite the costs they are currently looking at with an insurance claim looming.

Nope. If a diesel was fitted with a cat as standard (as many are) and this is removed for the MOT, then it should fail.
