Is it true when you port out the original network has to fwd all calls to your number to the new network?

No. I believe the signalling does before the call is set up as the original number range still belongs to the donating network but the call is actually set up to your new network

Yeah i read on ofcoms website that the original network still holds onto your number and calls are routed to that network, then they 'onward route' it to the new network! So if the original network has a problem you could still experience problems! Madness!

They are looking to change it in the next couple of years though. The document is on Ofcoms website - it's a long read but quite interesting (in a geek kinda way!)
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...

It's because the number range (the first part of the number) belongs to the original network. I think the call is diverted to the receiving network rather than forwarded
