Yeah, edit it. Basically you want to say you looked them up, they collect debts, prove you owe something if they think you do.

  • Thanks to you both, I will get this out and may need your advice when I get a reply if you don't mind.

One last question for now, should this initial contact be sent by recorded post or would first class suffice?

Its recommended to send recorded, but as it goes to a bulk mail address normally 1st class should suffice.
Oh, and feel free to post again if you need further help.

I just noticed that nobody has told you NOT to SIGN any of the letters you send them. They have been known in the past to mock up agreements using a signature off a letter like the prove it letter or CCA request which has been sent to them.

  • lol understood and thank you, I shall simply type my name at the bottom.

I have amended the opening of the letter as I have no idea which debt they are contacting me for to the below:-

    Dear Sir/Madam

You have written to me asking that I contact you.

From research I understand that you are a Debt Collection Agency

If you have reason to believe that a valid debt exists and that the Debtor resides at this address, then please prove the debt in writing.

I am familiar with the Consumer Credit sourcebook of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) which states the following rules....... etc etc as per the template

    ......is this ok?

Please also note that I require all communication to be in writing.

This is entirely sufficient for me. No need to quote the FCA sourcebook - they are a regulated company and know exactly what the regs say. They will also know what "prove it" means.

If they give you the runaround then complain. And complain with the intention of escalating it.
  • ok thank you, I will amend to your recommendation
  • Hi all, thank you again for all of your input and help.

So the "prove it" letters were sent first class on Thursday 4th September, so far i have had no reply from either company - any idea how long it normally takes them to get back to people? should I be concerned that I have heard nothing as yet?

Also no other letters have appeared on the doorstep as yet which Im guessing is a good thing!

    Thanks again
