Sounds as though your son will benefit more by putting that school behind him dandy. What an awful way to behave!
I made a carrot & celery soup for lunch. Last night I stuck all the veg scraping in the slow cooker with water and seasoning and this gave me the stock for the soup. It was really tasty and only a few strings of celery escaped the blender
I feel absolutely exhausted and will be aiming for a sleep once OH gets home from work

dandy-candy wrote: »Been having a difficult time here. As I mentioned last week DS2 had bad AS results - 2 D's and 2 U's. He did excellently in his GCSEs with 4 A's, 1 B, 3 Cs and a D; from a boy who was have SENCO support and has had depression issues. Anyway the school had a policy that you can't retake a failed subject but as he really wants to do Biology he asked if they could make an exception. They said no. So he asked if he could redo the subjects he got D's in to improve his grades. They said no because he would already know the work?? (One was maths and the subject teacher said she was happy for him to redo the year) So he asked could he do different subjects and they said no because he didn't have GCSEs in those subjects (he had done all sciences, maths and languages at gcse) then they just said you better go somewhere else.
This is a school that has police out every term and knife crime etc (welcome to London), and both my sons have attended and been quiet polite boys, hard workers and constantly getting certificates and praise. I was utterly gobsmacked.
We've managed to find a college that will take him on a six week trial for Biology and if he does well he can continue, but I'm furious with his old school and will send them a stinking letter - but as DS2 said not until we have a reference for the college from them! What a sad end to a 11 year relationship with our local school.
Rant over, have a good day all, there's always hugs here if you need them xx
Sadly this seems to be the future of British education and the reason why Mr TTFTM describes himself as a Qualification's Industry Operative rather than a teacher. Schools no longer encourage resits, the government abolished the traditional November and Spring resits and universities are so oversubscribed that they will often only accept the first result and not take the resit exam into consideration. I hope your son settles and thrives in the college.
Thanks ever so much to everyone who has enquired after my health. Some of my wounds are starting to heal and I have antibiotic ointment for the ones that aren't yet. I am so glad it's Friday and I am home and the weekend is ahead of me.

dandy that is awful! I hope that he gets on well at college xx
My DS went on leaps and bounds when he left school and went to college, he says that it was nice to be treated as an adult.
Cloudy here today and it looked like it was going to rain, but we went up the zoo for a break and as we are members it was free to get in
We saw the new baby giraffe she is 11 days old and already taller than DH, but she has no name yet, she is gawguss.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I'm very late dropping in today as we celebrated DH's final day off sick by having a day trip to Southport. It rained a lot but we had a great day - he won't use his wheelchair in our home city (someone he knows might see him...) but I pushed him all over the town and we had such a great time. If he doesn't use the wheelchair he can only walk a total of about 20 minutes per day and you can't do much in that time.
We had a not very frugal but delicious lunch in a cafe run by an autism charity - it was a really lovely place with squashy sofas and everything homemade - can't wait to go back!
Even more unfrugal is that we are going to Harrogate tomorrow and are going to stay overnight in a hotel. It's been a terrible fourteen months and now he's going back to work we feel like celebrating.
Sorry to hear about your school trouble, dandy-candy

If you get a chance try to go to Betty's in Harrogate - it is quite an experience.

The pictures of the giraffes really cheered me up.
Made baked fish tonight with a stir fry of kale (sorry Mardatha) and oyster and varied selection of exotic mushrooms with garlic and bouillon stock. Everyone seemed to like it and raved about the lunchtime leek and potato soup with loads of fresh garlic.
DH is going to be shovelled to the gills with fruit, veg, fish and everything protective I can think of ( at least with all the garlic - he is safe from vampires!

Forgot to say I popped into Leeds today to TKmaximus and got the cutest little fleece lined coat and dress and leggings for cousin's baby due to be christened at the end of September.
We are hoping to be able to go to the christening but in case we are at the hospital most days for the next few weeks I want to get some shopping done now ."This site is addictive!"

cazmcf- for bramble jelly you want to stew the blackberries then strain through fine muslin. For every pint of juice add one pound of sugar. Boil until it passes the wrinkle test then pour into sterile jars. Bramble jelly is my favourite jam for a cream tea.
I made a spiced elderberry syrup today
