Tesco Bank NIGHMARE ! ID gone mad

So a very paraphrased lesson :
SIX WEEKS and countless ID letters, I finally managed to 'open' a savings account with Tesco Bank
(despite having multiple other accounts with Tesco BANK, they still required countless amounts of "ID", all verified and sent back; strange as in the t&cs it clearly states they have the right to deduct funds from any other tesco bank account you may own, so they ARE the same TESCO BANK (as even the name implies) and yet their agents insist "none are in any way connected" so we have to verify every single account individually.
Then (like so many others) I was then told 'not verified correctly' and the prcoess starts all over again... despite COPYING their own phrase verbatim, being counter signed by a solicitor and a police officer and having verified Passport ID.... and so it went on and on and on, and on.
Including other bank accounts signed by my own branch manger which 'they are apparently not allowed to do any more' and officially branch stamped.
Finally (after weeks of 0845 phone calls and RE sending documents) a letter arrives, try to register on line. Nope.
They 'forgot' to send out yet another PIN number letter.
That arrived, still wont work, Eight, yes EIGHT 0845 telephone calls later it transpires THEY have set up the wrong personal details- despite they having 'verified' (finally!!) ALL my details, (including my passport!) so their ineptitude.
Another four calls, and every one confirms it has been changed; no it has not.
AND their system keeps tampering with my address, and re inserting other numbers (making it the wrong address).
all in all, Tesco Bank is a complete and utter shambles.
So many passwords and combinations it's like fort knox, and even the staff cant decide if it HAS to be in upper lower or however it was registered to work.
They really, really need to sort this out.
In the end I opened an account with another major bank, first time on- line and in just two weeks.
Great shame as the (scottish) staff are the best I have ever spoken too, (once you get through) it just seems their IT systems and 'decision' tress are run by complete and utter morons, who are hell bent on preventing anyone from banking with them.
As voiced by so many others, Tesco Bank is a shambolic mess right now, so I'd avoid all the pain and bank elsewhere until even they themselves know what ID is and how to deal with it as they themselves have no clue.

Both the wife and I had to do nothing more than sign a form they sent out - no further ID required. Maybe we just got lucky.
Can't stand their logon procedure though, especially as I have Firefox set to always clear cookies after use, which means Tesco never remember that I'm on a 'trusted' PC, so they insist on texting me confirmation codes every single time.0 -

Voiced by so many others where?
My personal experience is that Tesco banking (saving and current account) works without fault. Their internet banking is a bit clonky at times but working 100% correctly nonetheless, in my experience. They have a great current account offering, and all FP payments in and out, as well as any DDs against their current and savings accounts are working like clockwork.
Their CS answers the phone v quickly and is very knowledgeable, competent and empowered to implement decisions, and very friendly and polite all the way. Until your post, I had only seen many positive mentions of Tescos.
Where's the "shambolic mess"?0 -

This has been mentioned a few times times. Anybody who deletes their browsing history is going to run into problems as Tesco Internet banking relies on cookies.
You can argue until the cows come home whether their use of cookie makes sense or doesn't.....but for an easy life, use the free version of ccleaner to clean your browsing history and/or cookies. cclean allows you to keep cookies for URLs you can specify, and logging into Tesco (and other sites) will be working without any problems if you do. Only works flawlessly if you are using the same PC all the time to access your bank accounts. Which is ok, you would expect your bank to ask questions if the PCs accessing your account(s) change.0 -
Thanks. You can add an exception for tescobank.com within Firefox which works just as well. Still a pain though.0

No pain for me. I have been logging into my Tesco current account at least once a day ever since I had a Tesco current account in June 2014, and several times a month into my Tesco savings account since I had a Tesco savings account September 2012. I have not experienced any login (or other)problems.
What were the problems you had?0 -

I have the same problems as Irm below - each time I log in Tesco doesn't recognise my laptop, even though I ask them to each time. So I enter some details, confirm my mobile no & they text me a one-time code to enter - think this in addition to my user name, 2 digits from a security number & a password. I also use Firefox with their cleaning up system (whatever its called - not a techie here) & Tesco is the only bank I've dealt with that doesn't like my Firefox browser (I have used around 12 other a/cs with Firefox & there isn't an issue).
It wouldn't put me off using Tesco for savings/credit card a/cs as I think their service is excellent, but I can see it may be frustrating if you're logging on each day. Both the wife and I had to do nothing more than sign a form they sent out - no further ID required. Maybe we just got lucky.
Can't stand their logon procedure though, especially as I have Firefox set to always clear cookies after use, which means Tesco never remember that I'm on a 'trusted' PC, so they insist on texting me confirmation codes every single time.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Wow, lovingthemoney's complaint about Tesco has had a huge effect on their share price! o_O
Complaining really does work!Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
I've had a problem with both Tesco and Santander log ins,a couple of times, after Microsoft updates have been installed -not sure why because updates shouldn't affect cookies stored as far as I can see?0

There is something buggy about Tesco. I have win8.1, CClean every week and specifically have the www.tescobank.com cookie saved, yet every time I log in it still does not recognise the laptop, despite every time clicking the option to do so. I have countless other financial and other sites where there is no problem after cleaning with their cookies kept.0

I think my main issue with it is that I don't believe it's a particularly good system in the first place (although it's probably better than nothing). I'd prefer something like Facebook use, where it seems to track your location (by IP address I assume) at a city level - so if I suddenly log in from the other end of the country/world then it freezes access until it's more sure it's me.
As I have multiple PCs, tablets, phones, etc in both the house and place of work, this sort of system is preferable to manually juggling cookies on multiple machines.
Perhaps more importantly though, I'm always forgetting where my phone is :rotfl:0
