Pub bar prices 'flexible'?

Quick question as I don't seem to be able to find the answer online elsewhere.
Can a pub charge more for the same items after midnight?
Yes.
i.e. a pub raised prices by 30p a pint citing it was after midnight recently and I have never heard of this before.
Frankly I've been to a few events where prices seem to 'evolve' during the evening and I can only consider this a deliberate act of fraud -unless anyone knows it's legal?
I thought they had to have and show a tariff and couldn't deviate from that?
Not any more, since the introduction of the CPR's did away with the old pricing order. BUT, they then run the risk of a misleading omission offence under the CPR's (LINKY) if they don't have a price list to inform the customer before they buy.
N.B. there have been no decided cases yet on this point, so the jury is still out (if you'll pardon the pun) on exactly what is required by bars at this point in time.0 -
Before you drink the pint/drink you will be given a price by the barman (as he will ask for money). If you pay that you've accepted the price, If you decide its too expensive then don't pay and leave the drinks.
Personally as someone who visits pubs/bars/restaurants a lot I order a pint of lager or beer and just pay it. The price can be anything up to £5 these days (especially in London). If its a major financial concern then it would be sensible to ask the barman first how much a pint is before ordering!0 -
This happens all the time - bars have happy hours, clubs offer cheap drinks to get people in early, there are stock markets promos...and this kind of thing:

If it's illegal, there are a LOT of people breaking the law...0 -
Just to clarify, having worked in lots of retail environments and being fairly 'savvy' with rules/regs and legislation -I am certainly NOT one of those people that think something must be illegal if I don't like it.
Just so we have that clear, although I am familiar with that type of poster to be fair.
It's an interesting thread, I'm glad I brought it up as it's answered a lot of questions, I still think it's a bit odd that prices for the same product can vary, even if I can understand why they do it.
The pub in question was rammed to the gunnels with a constant queue all night and those who pointed out the price hike to me were simply disgruntled to think their loyalty and goodwill was being abused as they'd been drinking there the whole weekend.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0
