Pub bar prices 'flexible'?

A club i used to frequent has always put prices up after midnight, before midnight a single vodka is 70p and this goes up to £1 after midnight. So i think its legal
I think it works in the same way "happy hour" deals tend to work, there to entice customers in and such. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

They need to have information available to customers about what they are selling and the prices but that doesn't have to be anywhere near the door - many restaurants choose to put menus near the door because customers like to see menus and check there's something they like and prices before going in.
Bars and pubs also need to have price information available to customers - but the prices can still change depending on the time- they can have a price list that says £x for a drink, then 15% off for drinks before midnight for example. Or have a 'happy hour' with discounted drinks at particular times of day. It's not unusual at all for prices to vary depending on the time of day or even day of the week. Perfectly legal and I'm a bit surprised that OP hasn't seen this type of thing before.
The point of the OP was that this pricing information was not available and is therefor not perfectly legal.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Not quite true.
The original poster does not yet know whether the pricing information was available or not.
Post #6 asked if the info was available, and post#11 indicates that the OP currently doesn't know whether it is or not.0 -
You should try drinking in my local, despite being a punter there for almost five years I have no idea how much drinks are. I can go to the bar three times and pay three different amounts for a round. But this is due to combination of 'local discounts' for people who have a membership card for the community group and varying levels of friendship with the bar staff. Is it illegal that they don't have a list of all the possible discounts they might give me?
Still blooming expensive though!Getting married 02.08.14

I've seen bars have a stock exchange style screen with all drink prices changing on a constant basis. A little bit different as information clearly displayed, but they'd have price crashes etc on drinks, and just demonstrates how variable bars can make their prices.0

They have to have a price list displayed however they are free to discount from this price as they see fit.
They could go the whole hog and have their price list show a pre and post midnight pricing or alternatively it may simply show their post midnight/ highest prices and do a promo midnight every night.
One bar I used to go to occasionally did a "bar stockmarket" where prices of drinks were displayed on screens and went up the more people bought them and went down when people werent buying them. Occasionally there was a stockmarket crash and all the prices tumbled. If you knew what you were doing you could have a very cheap night but may end up drinking some odd things as no one was ordering madeira so it was 20p a glass
They did get in trouble at one point though as they hadnt taken down their standard tariff and so despite the big screens showing that Stella was now £6 a pint the official pricelist by the bar still showed it at £3.50 and someone complained to TS or such.0 -
...is that the same way a restaurant needs to have their menu displayed at the front door?
Redcard isn't having much luck here!
I expect the pricing is there somewhere. Bars are large places, you often have to look for an entire list. I don't see the problem, when i buy drinks I'll ask the price if it would matter eg how much money I had etc.
I also find it a bit odd, we see this often on this board that people assume something probably isn't legal just because they don't like it. People need to ask themselves the question first why would something be illegal? Not just assume it probably is.0 -
Bars have happy hours, taxis increase their prices after 10.30pm and again after midnight. Wetherspoons stop there free refills of tea and coffee after 11am.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0
