Hello Poppy, thank you for posting. It's nice to hear a happy ending-you being promoted
I hope things continue to go well for you.
Thank you for giving an insight into the whole process. I'm not as worried about it now
I have actually already returned to work. I went back the day after I was discharged from hospital.
Thank you again xxx-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Hi Razorbladekisses,
It's your employer who is asking you to attend this appointment, so it should not be considered to be time off sick and you should be paid for it. If they do cut your wages for the time taken to attend, if I were you, I would challenge it extremely vigourously! Good luck with the appointment.

Just to update. I have an appointment at Bupa Wellness tomorrow. It was supposed to be last Tuesday but upon arriving it was cancelled as the Doctor was apparently sick an there was no one else who could have seen me  I was sick as soon as I got there and had already SH prior to the appointment. I'm really anxious about it tonight and feel really ill. I know it's silly to make myself ill over an appointment but I can't help it.
I assume that Bupa would already have a report from my GP/Psychiatrist as otherwise they aren't going to have a clue what's wrong with me but what is worrying me is that I requested to see the report beforehand but haven't seen anything as yet. Is that normal? Surely Bupa have something, don't they?
On top of that it isn't clear as to what the appointment is about. Area manager says it's to see whether I am fit to work. HR woman says it's to see how work can help me in day to day life and the letter from Bupa says to discuss your medical condition further
Someone reassure me please!-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Stay calm!
(((((((((((((((have a hug))))))))))))))))))
now when you get there and go into the appointment state you haven't seen the report as soon as you can. Ask if you can have a copy and 10mins to read it so you can make sure all is relevant and correct.
Thats not too much to ask is it?
Ask for some privacy to read and understand what it says, compose yourself and return to the meeting/interview.Panda xx

Oh RBK, please don't worry. You have come so far and tomorrow will probably be nowhere near as worrying as you think.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but just want to let you know that I'm thinking of you - please let us know how you get on :grouphug:Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -

I was referred to BUPA Wellness in my last employment (in the NHS), and the understanding of the doctor I saw was that it was to see when I would be fit to return to work, and what adaptations should be made in my return to work.
Try not to worry, remember that it is only one opinion, and your employer has to give other professional opinion equal weighting.
I would check what information the doctor has already received, because in my case they had not received anything more than a referral letter from HR.
Please don't let what I have said worry you. The people at the centre, including the doctor, were lovely. If you are not happy with the way that the appointment is going, then ask for a break, or if need be, to rearrange.
If I was nearby I'd offer to come with you ...
You'll be ok, we'll be thinking of you.

Just wanted you to know that I feel for you. I hate medical appointments and would be in a state the night before one so please don't feel it is only you. The way I try to deal with them is to tell myself that the appointment will come and pass and to try to look to the time when it will be finished and I will be walking out and imagine the relief I will feel then. Hugs to you, be strong Dusty xThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Thanks dmg24 that has reassured me
If you don't mind me asking what kind of questions did they ask you?
I'm so scared of going by myself but I guess I don't have much choice.
I returned to work 3 months ago. It seems silly that I'm being made to attend this appointment.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Hi razorbladekisses,
It could well be that BUPA don't actually have a report yet from your GP/Consultant. The Occupational Health Physicians I have knowledge of actually wait until they have seen the employee before they request a report from the employee's own medical practitioners. This is because the Occupational Physician is able to gather information from the employee and is then able to ask specific things, the answers to which will form the basis of the report sent back to the Occupational Physician.
In terms of what the purpose of seeing the Occupational Physician is, it can cover a variety of matters. If the employee is off sick, it is normal for the employer to ask for a projected date of return. Alternatively, if the employee is at work, the employer may have asked the OP to comment on whether the employee is actually fit for their duties, or whether they should be moved to alternative work, either as a temporary measure or on a permanent basis. Finally, the employer should also have asked the OP to comment on whether any other adjustments need to be made to allow the employee to be supported at work.
Please don't worry about seeing the OP. In my experience, they are always keen to be helpful towards the employee and will question you in a non confrontational manner about the history of your condition, any treatments/medication you've been having, how you are feeling at work and whether you think there is anything your employer can put in place to help you.
It's a shame that you were let down when you had prepared yourself for the appointment, and you must have found it very difficult, but I hope we've reassured you that it should all go well when you do see the OP.
Good luck.
