I am definately looking into joining a union. As you said, it would be in my best interest.

Bupa were only allowed access to my medical report if I gave my consent. If I chose not to then they would base their decision on what they already knew. I chose to give my consent and am now waiting to hear back from HR or Bupa.

Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words :)

I've been looking at your other posts and wasn't comfortable to post on the depression thread as I felt I would be an intruder so I'm leaving this on this thread where only few of us are around - as much as I've seen you around you're such a lovely gem of a person and I wish you knew how special you're. I'm not saying it for the sake of saying - I feel so much when I say so and wanted to because part of the perceived failure is in you not recognizing it. Please take care of yourself.

She is a total gem. If more people were like her, then the world would be a much much better place.

You'll get through this RBK :)

I don't know what is best RBK, however, just wanted to say that you are a lovely person and it will all come good in the end.

  • Just to update. I received a call today from Bupa telling me that I have an appointment on 25/09/07. She said it lasts an hour. Does anyone know what happens during these appointments?

I assume that I will lose pay for attending this appointment as I have no sickness left at all.

  • Hi RBK,

Just wanted to let you know my experience of this I work in the NHS with vulnerable adults and a few years ago I went through a very dark time I was very depressed and so much so that I also attempted suicide I only did this once but could easily have done it many more times.
Within my job role I have access to medication at work some of which would most definately finish me off should I have wanted it to.

I also had this access to records thing though not through Bupa I allowed it and I also got to see a copy of the reports they stated what my condition was but it seemed the main aim of this from my employers POV was to work out whether there was any hope of recovery and if I would be able to work at all in future.
The response from my GP was that I would eventually be able to return to work and my employer seemed happy with this.
I was given appointments with Occupational health and I attended these they were an extra form of support they supported me through my depression we agreed that I continue these appointments and along with my GP occupational health decided when I was ready to return to my post I felt really supported throughout the whole thing and I have since been promoted.

I felt alot like you terrified and did not want to loose my job but as others have said it could be argued that you will come under the DDA and they have a duty to support you if there is a chance of you returning to work.

Depression is an awful illness and very often met with prejudice from others I found this difficult to deal with that and the know it alls telling you simply to "snap out of it".

I wish you all the best in your recovery

Keep us posted as to how this resolves.
