Another one with a 34 year old gas cooker free standing that apart from a couple of call outs whilst under guarantee has never let me down. In fact the new ones on the market aren't built as well as my old workhorse.
My mother also had one for 30+ years and never had any problems with it.0 -
My cooker is all gas, double oven and separate grill. It's brilliant. 10 years and no problems.0

Gas 3.5p per kWh.
Standard rate electricity 12p per kWh.
You do the maths.
However, as MJ points out, the maintenance/repair costs are higher with gas, as they need a GSR engineer.
If the OP hasn't had an electric oven in the kitchen before they may need a sparky in to run a spur to the kitchen though. Which may lead to a needing a new consumer unit if its not big enough0 -
There are safety issues with gas. Gas not burnt in the right proportions with oxygen will make carbon monoxide which is deadly. A gas oven that doesn't light first time and fills with gas could also be an explosive hazard when it does eventually light. As far as I know there are no safety issues with gas ovens, neither is there any requirement to check them regularly (unless in a rental house).
BUT I'd go for gas hob + electric oven every time. I don't have a huge amount of experience with gas ovens, but I've found electric is easier to control and usually comes with more functions (eg. defrost setting, very low temperature for slow roasting).
In the end I suppose it comes down to who does most of the cooking and what do they prefer?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Assuming that the OP already has a gas supply to the property, and a gas CH boiler, there is no greater risk as long as the device is properly installed and maintained, like any gas appliance. And of course a CO monitor should already be in place.
An electric cooker (or indeed any electrical device) is also potentially lethal if faulty or mis-used.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've got a gas hob and electric oven, but now i've also got a combi microwave, so given that most of the time you're oven is never full, you may find it cheaper to use the oven part of the combi.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
