I believe that many types of crime which involve theft or damage actually show as an increase in GDP.

    Kinda.

There is the Broken Window Fallacy which (purports) to show that a broken window being repaired adds to GDP.

There are lots of very well known problems with GDP however there's no reason to expect those problems to change significantly over short time-frames. I don't imagine the number of broken windows has changed significantly over the past 5-10 years, or the amount of housework or DIY being done. The 'error amount' of GDP vs actual output is likely to remain roughly constant.

So new infrastructure to meet the needs of an increase in population, fuel spend in a long traffic jam etc are counted as increases in GDP whereas in reality they don't increase our well being at all.

Really? Tell that to a road builder or a petrol station worker.

I'm surprised you haven't grasped the concepts of 'gross' and 'per capita'
  • On the back of this a Tory MP has resigned from the Tory party and will now stand for UKIP in the by-election which will now follow.

He's pretty damning over the internal talks in the tory party when it comes to the "promised" referendum and therefore finds his position untenable.

Graham, it's just another Westminster pledge that goes unfulfilled.
    Get used to it.
