All the articles in the press seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill on this subject, with big headlines risking £1000 fines etc. By the looks of it, even these reporters don't really know what is happening.
All that is changing is you no longer get a disc when you tax your car. The tax and the fines are as before.0 -
Yes, but "things to carry on more or less as before" wouldn't make a very interesting headline would it?Deleted_User wrote: »All the articles in the press seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill on this subject, with big headlines risking £1000 fines etc. By the looks of it, even these reporters don't really know what is happening.

Ok heres my question:
My tax runs out on Sunday, I'm going to pop to the post office this afternoon (its not actually a proper PO, just a PO stand in a community shop that isn't run by a specfic PO employee so they won't be able to answer my question) to buy a new disc, I'm only doing 6 months, which is still £126.50.
Will I go onto this new system in Feb when the 6 months runs out or will I somehow be transferred to this new system?
And in Feb, will I then get this option for monthly DD? The £126.50 is a blow to me as I'm a low earner.0 -
There is no "new system". The ONLY differences are that, after 1/10/14, you won't need a bit of round paper - and, from the same date, you'll be able to pay monthly for 12mo tax by DD.
The third difference - that tax won't be transferable on buying/selling a used car - isn't relevant here.0 -

I take it the bit in red only applies to those whose disc runs out after 1/10/14?0 -
Yes. You can't buy tax by DD until October.hgotsparkle wrote: »I take it the bit in red only applies to those whose disc runs out after 1/10/14?0 -
Mine runs out tomorrow
Shame it's a month early as I would have found it so much easier paying by DD.My car tax is a whopping £156 for 6 months!! (I want to get rid of the car but it's on finance-long story) Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

I bought a second hand car which has an MOT until May 2015! I want to tax the car from the 1st of September 2014 which is the date my insurance starts, but the guy who sold me the car has lost the log book so he has sent for a new one with my details on the form to the DVLA but the new one hasn’t arrived yet! If it doesn’t arrive Monday morning will I be able to tax the car? And if so how. Thanks
P.S. I have done the necessary checks to make sure it hasn’t been a write off, or stolen or on finance, and I have checked all the previous M.O.T.s to make sure the mileage is accurate.Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs
