Poor performance with Shazam on Moto G

Maybe this is a bit of an obscure question but here goes:-
On my Moto G I have the Shazam music app. This is an app that 'listens' to a few bars of a song, using the built in microphone, and identifies the song and artist etc.. I use this app on an old ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco) and also on a cheap Chinese tablet and it works great.
However, on the Moto G it seems much less likely to identify anything and then only when the Moto G is held very close to the speakers. In all other respects the Moto G seems fine.
I did wonder if my Moto G had a problem but last night installed Shazam on a friends Moto G and the results are identical.
Does anyone else have experience of this. I've Googled and there are a number of similar reports but only speculation as to the cause. I was wondering if it has something to do with the fact that the Moto G has two microphones, the second being used for noise cancellation. Maybe it sees the music as background noise?
Anyone have any experience of this or any ideas?

Google Now has this feature. See if that works for you.0

I use the free Soundhound, which is available on the iPhone and probably on Android too. It works fine for me on an iPhone.
Maybe the microphone in the Moto G isn't very sensitive, or you have it in a case which obscures the microphone?0 -
It sounds like it is a microphone issue. It may be worth emailing Shazam about it via this form: https://support.shazam.com/hc/en-us/requests/new They may investigate and find a way of improving the app's performance.0

Another vote here for soundhound.
Give that a try and if it isn't any better it must be an issue with the phones mic I would have thought0 -
Thanks for the replies. As stated this is happening on two different Moto G's.
I followed the advice and installed Soundhound and it is perfect! It pulls the titles of all the tracks I have tried, quickly and even with the playing volume quite low.
I'm convinced now that although the Moto G's are working fine as phones, there does seem to be some compatibility issue with Shazam. I also tried Google Now and it also works perfectly. The odd one out is just Shazam.0
