They get commission for every sale they make, and BG inflate the cost of every installation to maximise the £££'s they get in.0 -
Well he didn't try and sell a new boiler, just needed to replace some valve which is covered under our care plan.
I've asked BG to come and quote for a new one anyway because ours is starting to have more and more parts on the obsolete list and it's generally well known for not being a good make at all...
He's fixed it so we have half power hot water till they can fit the part on Monday so I'm happy :-)0 -
Yeah as your boiler gets older the manufacturers cut down on parts availability. Newer boilers are getting more economical to run than older ones so there are maybe saving to be had by changing.
At that point you might well be offered quotes on a replacement.
Which business wouldn't take an opprttunity to offer advice or a quote when the manufacturers have given up making parts for it.
BG and ALL other business is in the money making game.0 -
it will be the blending valve, the water inside the boiler is stored at 80d which is too hot to come out the taps so it mixes it with cold before it goes to the tapsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

Clever young thing you are, just checked the homecare checklist he left and "blending valve" it is! :-)0 -
thank you for the compliment but after 32 yrs as a professional plumber/heating engineer I would hardly call myself youngI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Curiously, many parts that BG declare as 'obsolete' and unobtainable are easily found by independent GSR RGI's, or even by a simple google search.
BG will quote you approx 40% more for a new boiler and install than an independent. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I don't normally stick up for BG but in this case he is right, while some parts are still available a lot of the parts for the Powermax are no longer availableI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
