No water suddenly from hot taps?!

Hi guys,
Yesterday morning just at shower time, we turned on the hot tap in the bathroom and a small burst of water came out the tap then stopped completely! Same with the other hot taps in the house! We panicked for a bit then tried again and it came out, and was fine.
All fine until just now, I've gone to wash up and the same has happened again!
What could cause this?! Any ideas? Cold taps are fine, hot taps - no water at all!

Edit: And now it's back again! what the chuff..?!

Problem with your boiler? Do you have a combi or a tank?0
-
A combi I think. Oh dear I was hoping it wouldn't be that! The water is very hot when it's coming out, the pressure gauge on the boiler is showing 1.5 bars...0

Pressure sounds ok. Does the boiler fire up every time you turn the tap on?0

No not every time, it's a slightly odd boiler I think, a notorious "Range Powermax", it has a small tank inside it but it's not a traditional tank one, it fires up enough to keep the small tank hot (during the hours the Hot Water is set to "on").
It's weird how the hot water just cuts out - like there isn't even any residual water in the pipes, I don't get it, especially the way it restarts after a few minutes, but I'm sure the time will soon come where it doesn't restart and we can't shower.
Time to get british gas in?? We've got some kind of care plan with them...0 -

Why would any repair engineer try to sell rather than repair?0

We had a similar problem to ours for the past few weeks, although we still got some water out of the taps it was just freezing cold. Turned out to be a small switch which wasnt always kicking in when we turned on the hot tap. British Gas fixed it no problem.
They do like to give you the "you could save money" lecture everytime they come out but the guy himself said its not worth replacing it whilst they can still get the parts. Amount we would save would be far less than what it would cost to replace it.0
