Help iphone5c question
Options
Hi everyone . Basically me and my ex just split up lat week after 15 years. He dumped me but beginning if July he persuaded us to go on a joint phone contract with EE and he'd pay the bill . Well when we first broke up I offered the phone back and he said no I could keep it as after 4 months he'd own it anyways so I'd have a phone anyways . Well I was confused how this could be true as like I said I've only had it a month . So I called ee and they said the phone was basically on a 24 month joint contract and he pays £40 my iPhone and £50 for his Samsung galaxy . The whole acct is in his name . The guy at ee was sympathetic and told me that basically my ex is responsible for the whole contract and the only way for him to stop it would be to send me phone back or he would have to pay for it outright . Well now I'm currently not talking to my ex as I can't it's too painful but I feel I don't want to give the phone back as it was mine and after 15 yrs I deserve it .
Now he has not asked for it back . But my question is if he does call ee and cancel my contract and decide to Barr my phone from being used to be nasty can I still turn it into a pay as go . Or will it then be dead never to be used again??

If the contract is in his name, then technically it is / was his phone, but then there is the fact that he gave it to you as a gift.
If you don't return it he can report it stolen and you won't be able to use it at all, as a payg or otherwise.
If I were you I'd just give it back to him, you'll retain a bit of dignity and he can cut off the line and "blacklist" the handset anyway.0 -
Ps however, the contract will not end if the handset is sent back, nor will the phone be owned x months into the contract, it's owned by the account holder from the day the contract begins, the line rental and handset are separate issues.0

Unfortunately, your ex is the account holder and as such can block your use of the phone at any time. as well as being able to see who you call and when via on-line billing. Also iPhones can be disabled, tracked, etc. by the iCloud account holder, so you are better off without it.
In my opinion, you would be better off getting your own phone with a new number, etc. He's saddled with the remaining contract and will have to pay for the phone regardless of it being used or not.0 -
The hassle this will cause is not worth it. Get your own phone I say.0
