Easyjet charge for payment by Visa debit...?

Booked a flight with Easyjet yesterday and took care to pay by Visa debit to avoid any credit card fees...
Got payment confirmation - guess what, they'd charged a credit card fee anyway ! (appears as a "credit card transaction" on payment confirmation)
Its probably a mistake (they say they are "investigating" with a promised response within 5-7 days from their Finance team), but I wonder whether anybody else has come up against this ? Checked their policy and it definitely says that debit cards are fee-free...

I had a similar problem with a debit MasterCard a while ago, but they sorted it out no problems. Just a little patience required when dealing with easyJet. Nothing gets done massively quickly.0

Which bank?0

First Direct. I've spoken to Easyjet subsequently about this. They swear I paid by credit card. I double-checked the number, and the card. Definitely Visa Debit. Confirmed by the bank.
Has anybody else had this ? if Easyjet are routinely charging for Visa Debit then this is a rip-off and contravenes their own T&Cs.0 -
I paid by visa debit for two flights last week and it worked fine - no extra charges0
