Royal Mail Special Delivery by 1pm - late

Immediately the 1pm deadline has passed the refund is due.
Yes, I agree but you still have to make a claim for the refund. You cannot go into the Post Office and ask for a refund. Royal Mail will not automatically issue a refund. A P58 claim form has to be filled in and sent to RM with the proof of posting within 14 days of sending the SD item, as per the RM T&Cs.
I have tried to claim a refund after the 14-day time limit had passed (as I did not realise = I did not read the T&Cs fully) and my claim was rejected for that very reason.
IMHO, it's not even worth downloading the claim form as it WILL be rejected - the OP stated that this was 3-4 weeks ago so well out of the 14-day time limit.0 -
*UPDATE* I decided it was worth a punt, it was actually 23 days after the late delivery that I sent the claim form off. Just came back from holiday to a cheque for £10.68! Not sure why they accepted it if they state 14 days but at least I know not to make this mistake if it happens again. Thank you all x0

Just bumping this to show that claiming is worth doing.
I sent something on 16th SD by 1pm, it arrived on the 18th rather than the 17th, so I filled in the online claim form, just needed to quote tracking number - didn't need to print anything or send off anything - received a cheque already for the full £7.15.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The issue with the OP was that the claim was 'too late' according to the RM T&C.
SD is the most easy of all the RM claims one might have, this thread highlighted there is a very strict time limit, that even RM themselves perhaps don't realise/work to.0
