Depends on the recorder. But in theory, yes.

SOme recorders allow you to plug in an external drive, which might be another option

If your Freeview recorder has some kind of video and audio output, you can pick up a DVD recorder for buttons on eBay, put them onto DVD, then watch the DVDs on your laptop ....

Can be done with many Freeview boxes, by many means.
Take the hard drive out of the box, connect to computer and use software to read the drive and extract the 'files'
Connect it via phono or S-Video leads to a TV card or USB video device and 'record' it onto the computer
Connect it via SCART or whatever to the kind of DVD recorder that would sit under your TV, and put it all onto DVD. This is then of course digital, and can be transferred easily to computer.

Which of the above you do depends on the model of Freeview box you've got, and any of the above equipment you have.
DVD recorders are very good for this from the point of view of just leaving them unattended.
  • I copy the files (or individual recording folders) off my box using a USB stick, then convert the files to DVD ready format using Handbrake.

Big learning curve for me, but better than losing priceless recordings off the box :)
