O2 to end 0870/0845/0844 inclusive calls for existing customers!

Just been on the phone to O2 customer services...

I'm on a old contract with inclusive 0870/0845/0844 calls included in monthly minutes. Now I'm aware new contracts no longer provide these calls as part of your monthly allowance and will be charged 20p per min.

The guy I spoke said ALL customers would soon have to pay for these calls regardless of whether you're on a new contract or not! He reckons all O2 customers will receive a text in the near future explaining these changes.

I signed up for this contract knowing these calls would be included, the guy at O2 said it was costing the company too much and was simply moving in line with other networks!

So much for honouring existing terms and conditions!!

  • Companies no longer need to sell us anything, all their advertising has to do is generate phone calls. What a scam!

    Use saynoto0870.com

It's not as convenient, but, you pay for convenience.

I have 08 numbers free in my 02 inclusive minutes, but still use saynoto0870 anyway.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

The same happened with vodafone, they dropped 08 numbers a while ago now, I moved to O2 because of this, I use 0845 numbers to access the internet on my laptop. any other providers give you 08 numbers inclusive? I don't think so

Thats the point tho, none of us will have free 08 calls in a few weeks time, will have to start using saynoto0870.com.

Still think they're being incredibly sly, surely they should honour customers who have signed up to a contract with inclusive 08 calls.

As this is a change to my terms and conditions which will now put me at a disadvantage does anyone know if I can break my contract? Finding O2 to be a really bad provider of customer service! Would love an excuse to get out! Lol

There is a way around the 0845 & 0870 problem. If you register your mobile with 18185.co.uk you can use their 02 qaccess number with your bundled minutes to onward dial 0845 or 0870 at a much less rate than 02's rates.

0845 is 3p in the daytime and 1p per minute in the evenings & weekends.
0870 is 3p in weekdays and 1p per minute at weekends.

There is a 4p connection charge.

You may well find that you can get out of your contract by invoking the following clauses:

11.5 You may end this Agreement at any time by writing to CPW at the above address to give notice if:
11.5.3 if you are a Consumer Customer we increase Charges calls, messages or data that form part of your inclusive allowance or your Line Rental Charges or change this Agreement to your significant disadvantage, provided you give us a minimum of 30 days written notice (and provided you notify us within one month of our telling you about the changes). This does not apply where the increase or change relates solely to Additional Services in which case you may cancel, or stop using, that Additional Service.

Many thanks Steve_xx for your posts.

Has anyone else tried cancelling a contract this way? I'm taking that by putting charges on 08 calls that were previously part of my inclusive allowance I'm within my right to cancel.

Just need them to actually notify me then I can get the ball rolling!!!

Ah well, looks like O2 have just sealed the fate for me to cancel all our contracts then. The lack of competitive GPRS/data allowance has become a problem more and more of late and this was one of the last benefits. Buh bye O2 then!
