Debit Card fraud problem

Hi there, I wonder if you guys could help.
I'm having a conundrum with my debit card. The RBS fraud team contacted me yesterday saying that there is a chance that my card could be compromised, perhaps cloned from a dodgy cash machine or a site that's been hacked. They were going to cancel my card and send me out a new one providing that I will be at my home address over the next two weeks.
However, I am travelling down to London in a couple of days for a long weekend. So they said they would delay it for a week and cancel my card once I come back.
I said this was fine, but on reflection, I'm a bit worried. Is this a safe course of action?
I don't have a credit card, so my debit card is my only account. ( I really need to get a credit card)
Any advice would be most helpful and greatly appreciated!

I'm sure it's not.
I checked the number and it came from their genuine fraud team no... 0845 356 0010.
They never asked for any details apart from a machine at the start wanting me to punch in my month of birth and then my year of birth. Then she went through recent transactions and I was to press a key to say yes that they are genuine.
It went through to a person in the team as I would be leaving my home address in the next 14 days.0 -
Sounds okay. The bank can hardly deny liability if they've phoned you to discuss it.0
-
Sounds very odd. If the card has been compromised, it should be stopped immediately.0

I would ring my local branch or, preferably, call in, to check.
They could bring you a 'new card' (fake) and take your genuine one.0 -
It's easy to fake an incoming number. I have even had calls supposedly from my own number.0

Would the fraud team really ring from the 0845 external contact number? Strongly agree with the suggestion to confirm with your local branch.0

let me get this straight
RBS:-hello we think your card has been cloned or compromised
Op:- oh dear what can you do to help me i am going to london for a long weekend and i am going to need some money for soho
RBS:- Mmmm well ok then here's the best course of action, go to London and enjoy yourself when you get back we'll cancel your card for you, fingers crossed it won't get used by anyone else but yourself
so you have to stay at for the next 2 weeks in order to receive a new card, this in itself would of made me suspicious and seriously f***ed me off, who in their right mind can afford to sit in for 2 weeks. What on earth are you doing with RBS for god sake man switch away from them

are you using online banking to check and reconcile all transactions on a daily basis, if so have you seen any odd or unusual transactions that you can't explain? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

That sounds odd. I'd expect them to read out a list of transactions and ask you if you'd made them, not speculate on whether your card might have been compromised. The fraud team are also unlikely to say they'd delay the cancellation.
Why not just ring the bank and confirm it was them you spoke to, and if it was then ask why they believe your card was compromised.
Basically if you confirmed the card was used fraudulently they'd cancel. If you confirmed it hadn't they wouldn't. I can't see any other course of action occurring.0
