We work on the cash principle and don't take purse out at all - no need if you have enough fuel in the car for your trip.0

If it depreciates the minute you've bought it and left the store- then think twice! Ask yourself this: Is it an asset or liability/will it appreciate or depreciate?0

If am being totally honest I still apply a technique that is a bit of a hangover from my student days...Is it in the sale?...If yes then I will probably buy it if it is reduced enough for my liking....if no, then I wait for it to be in the sale!!! :rotfl:
i FIND SALE GOODS ARE USUALLY WHITE ELEPHANTS SO TRY TO RESIST THEM TOO!0 -
Okay, it is a little vacuous, but when I go shopping I wear heels to ensure I only buy what I need, not what I want.
Guildford High Street (a cobbled hill) coupled with a pair of heels (or uncomfortable shoes in general) really makes me think 'can I be bothered to buy it'. I have abandoned many a purchase as the desire to get into some flats outstrips the desire to shop.
It also made me much better at walking in heels.

My friend wants to sell up and move to a smaller house. However, he has so much stuff in his house, it will take a year to clear it out. But still he keeps buying more stuff! So, every day, i send him a text message to say "Do you really need it?" or "Can you really afford it?" or "Do you have space for it?" He has already admitted that it works whilst out shopping. Now he sends me texts to say "Today, I resisted the urge to buy ..."0

Nice one! Just make sure you don't succumb to the racks of comfy sandals/flatties displayed outside shoe shops, buy some and walk out of the shop in them to continue on your shopping spree in comfort :rotfl:0 -
If you wait to Payday and take a trip to the shops to buy yourself a 'treat' then do what I do, bring that date forward by one week, and do your 'treat' shopping with the money you then have available. You'll be surprised what a difference it makes!0

I know that this may sound a little boring, but I found that paint by numbers is quite a good way to resist leaving the house to spend money!
It's really addictive and time fly's when you are sat there concentrating.
They look really good when they are finished and you get really proud when you see it completed.
I then give them away to family members in the hope that they will be proudly displayed in the kitchen or something!!

At the moment, my debit card has expired and I haven't picked up my new card from the bank - I will do eventually of course but I keep forgetting. So now I have to rely on my husband to get me cash - this really does help me not spending! I can't buy things online because of the expired card and I tend to spend a lot less when I have to see the cash disappearing

Sad I know, but well worth doing, especially if you're not totally sure about why you fell in love with that top once you've got it home.
I now say to myself that if I have any doubts, it goes back.
Of course, you have to make sure you only shop at shops that take returns.
I'm exactly the same! I get a bigger hit now when I got back for a refund! I actually posted on here saying how I has £170 of stuff I needed to return. I did and got £110 back. It's a bit embarressing really. My OH says it's a good way to save lol.
think i realise at the end of the month when i have no money that it must all go back.
I had 2 dresses i wasn't too sure about that went into the sale for half price this week, i let someone convince me to keep them and still haven't worn them!
I thought i was the only one who did this, nice to know i'm not!0
