Any tips please, got my new monitor, im all excited (sad I know) but just put my new LCD monitor on and the system is saying:-

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

Haven't got a clue what to do but i know i haven't got any other programs running so if anyone can help i'd be over the moon.

Thx for looking.

Thx for that, you now have your 1st thank you.

in device manager the only thing that has anything yellow next to it is, a yellow circle with a exclamation mark in it, next to C-Media AC97 Audio Device. Unfortunately it doesn't do a print screen so I can't post it. As for updating through Windows, for some reason my Window package dissapeared three months ago so can't do that. How do I find out the sound card make?

    Thanks again.

u can do a print screen on top of ur keyboaRD IS A BUTTON LIKE 'PRTSRC' above or around ur delete and u just press that then paste into paint. but that doesnt matter.

you need to find out ur model of ur motherboard....u need to look physically look on ur M/B for make and model u can get software but its messy.

so look and look for as many numbes on ur m/b as possible or take a clear high res as possible picture.

When you got your new monitor, did you have to install any software for it? What is the make/model of the monitor?

What do you mean by this?

I ask because you also say that your other half says the sound also went 3 months ago, so the problems may be related.

If you double click on the yellow ! icon in device manager, a properties window will open, what does the 'Device Status' box contain?

    Device Status box contains:-

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
