Hi glitzy
I am now confused. You transferred £2,000 from the Tesco card to the Mint card. Is that correct?
Which two are the same company?....YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY....

Hi glitzy
That is strange, you can transfer from Tesco to Mint (same owner) but you cannot transfer IF to Mint or If to Tesco (different owners).
In that case transfer £1,300 from the HSBC card to the Mint card and as soon as it goes through, pay for the holiday with the HSBC card.
Then again, buy all you can from Tesco for the next three months and use the money you would have used to pay for the food to pay off the overdraft.
Use the Capital One card for monthly purchases that cannot be paid for using the Amex card.
Once the overdraft has been cleared, pay any money left over each month off the Tesco card.
The idea is to pay as much off the Tesco card from now until the 0% offer ends and to then transfer the balance on the HSBC card to the Tesco card or the Capital One at a low life of the balance APR and to then use the HSBC card for monthly purchases. That is assuming that you will be able to get a BT.0 -
Hi Robflh
You are a mine of information. Did have another LBM as remembered i had a 0% capital card that has been paid off, so am going to use that when i cant use am ex. Going to pay for hol on am ex & bt £2000 from am ex to tesco (0% bt runs out may08), which will be holiday & this months bill plus some of next months. MY a/c will then be about £250 overdrawn in sept, so then we might be able to get some spending money for hol in the next couple of months rather then rely on cards!!!!....YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY....

Hi glitzy
That sounds good to me. Use the Amex card for everything you can, including paying for the holiday and then BT £2,000 from the Amex card to Tesco card.
I have amended my last post. Doing it my way would or should mean that the cost of the holiday is at 0% and the overdraft @ 5.8% will effectively have been transferred to the Mint card
Technically it is the other way round but if both are of a similar amount of money, it does not matter which one is called the old overdraft.
That means you can have the holiday and in no time at all you will have one thing less to worry about (the overdraft).
If you add up the credit limits on all your credit cards, you will have the total unsecured credit that you can currently have. Ie. The total amount of debt that you would have if you went mad and maxed out all your credit cards.
In all provability that would be the reason why you was turned down for a Goldfish card. The only way I know to get round it is either to have higher salaries or to get rid of one or more of the credit cards you already have. However, that is something for the future.0 -
Hi Robflh
Another reason for getting turned down is because we are not on the Voter Registration Form - it says quite clearly you can get turned down for credit. The Council know as we are paying council tax and they have amended that form, but this is a form they update once a year!
By the way i think the od with A/L is 7.9%, so even more of saving - we are the same as you with charges, as on our statement there is another charge of £25 for my hubby taking out that £10 - they explained £25 for paying the dd(i wish they hadn't) and £25 for going over limit, extortion!
We also had to borrow cash yesterday as we had a funeral to go to - looking forward to getting rid of o/d, then can concentrate on some fierce snowballing!!

Hi Robflh
My next dilemma is our van ins is due, £331.80 - am going to have to get it lower. Its probably as hubby has 3 points on his licence. Will probably pay it in 1 lump sum as it works out cheaper then monthly, but really thats our spending money for the holiday, plus end of sept have road tax for both the van & car about £195 for both for 6 mths. Oct is car ins & van mot. Nov holiday, Dec xmas - i think i am trying to depress myself its payday tom, so maybe i might get abit more then i thought!!! Happy Days!

Hi glitzy
You should have about £2,200 credit available on the Tesco card. That will be enough to pay for the holiday and the vans insurance. Pay for the insurance with the Amex card and transfer that money to the Tesco card or the Mint card.
In the past, I have had my insurance with norwichunion.com or privilege.com. Both have good prices and the latter is a sister company of directline.com.
Churchill.com have been doing a lot of advertising lately and that is the one I used for my home insurance and they guarantee to beat any like for like quote.
Buying online often gets you a ten percent discount and insuring both vehicles with the same company will save you money as well. You might save money if only one of you insures both vehicles and have the other as a named driver.
Depending on what the points were for (speeding) three should not make any difference to the cost of insurance.
I have had some good and bad news. Last week my car started to overheat and it was loosing water. I took it to a garage and they found a small split in a pipe. Unfortunately, it is the main pipe that supplies water here there and everywhere. Fortunately, The head did not get warped in the process, otherwise it would have cost me a lot more then it did.
It cost me £230 to get the car back on the road but the good news is that I rang Mint and asked them if I could have an increase to my credit limit. I do that every six months. They said yes and I had another £500 added to it. That paid for the car and for some floor tiles for my new kitchen.
I am going to sell my house next year, so I am trying to make it look fantastic. Then I am going to buy a house that is in need of some TLC. I should get more for mine then the house I buy will cost me and the difference between the two should be enough to kill off my debts. If I am very lucky, I will also have money left in the bank.
Ps. apply for the Egg money credit card after you have been living at your address for more then six months. That should be enough time at you new address and enough time for you to appear on the electrol register.0 -
I took out my car insurance a few weeks ago with Lloyds TSB through Quidco. The Lloyds quote was £30 per year more than my Churchill renewal quote but as Lloyds TSB insurance is underwritten by Churchill anyway and is to all intents and purposes exactly the same (down to identical paperwork except for different logos:rotfl: ) I went with them as I got a massive £120 cashback by doing it through Quidco:j . What a bargain! They do change their offers/rates though so it might not be that much now but there are other insurers on there with great offers.
If you don't know Quidco I recommend you sign up asap

Hi Impomdasp
Thank you for the reminder about Quidco. Although I have been budgeting and juggling my credit cards for years, this site is still fairly new to me. Consequently, I keep forgetting about things like Quidco and how much money it can save people.
Hi glitzy
Get quotes from different insurers and then go to this page to see what discount you can get. http://www.quidco.com/finance/highest-rates-currency. Then it will be quote minus discount to see which one is the cheapest.
The discount is per person, so you insuring the car and hubby insuring the van, with both of you using Lloyds TSB, would mean a total discount of £240.
However, I think I read somewhere that if you delete cookies after you bought the car insurance, you would be able to buy the van insurance from the same company and still get double the discount.
Which would be cheaper? Insuring both van and car with one partner as the insurer and the other half as a named driver or having the van insured by him and the car insured by you. As you would both have insurance, each of you can drive the other vehicle on your own insurance (no named drivers).
You could try asking the question on the Insurance forum. In the mean time here is something for you to read.

After looking at that, have a look at the post below.
