This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning all,
Up early for a BH as im working as is dd, we cover them in turn at work and this happens to be my turn, its absolutely chucking it down so we will be quiet, will get lots of baking done got the week.

Morning All
The sun is shining - it's been a glorious weekend here and looks to continue today. It isn't a bank holiday here (we have been back at school for 2 weeks) so typically it's a nice day. Hope yours cheers up weatherwise RR.
Washing on the line, DW chugging away. Got DDs room spread out throughout the house yesterday, just the wardrobe to go but I think someone is coming from Freegle to pick it up this week. The conservatory looks like a bedroom now with her dressing table and other assorted furniture in. It actually looks like we have just moved in again.
Have a good BH if you're off and hugs to those not feeling so good. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning all,
Thank you Ruby for starting the thread.
Have been poorly over the weekend, some funny bug that was a little like a flu bug. Ached all over, so tired and cold. I kept falling asleep in the chair on Saturday which is definitely not me, but all better now thank goodness.
Taking DD shopping this morning and I want to stock up on a few essentials, my winter store cupboard is not as full as I would like so time to replenish provisions.
It is raining here so no washing this morning, although there isn't much to do anyway.
TTFTM hope you are OK and didn't overdo things at the weekend.
Well wishes to all poorlies and hope you feel well soon.
Have a good day

Morning. Today I am in sunny Aberdeen, it's not too often that Aberdeen can be described as such. Work here for three days and home on Thursday. My hotel room has a view of the harbour, just a wee squint to the right needed to get the full glory of the rig support ships and the Shetland ferry!
Yesterday I met my friends who were doing the GSS at Lomondgate, it was so lovely to see them again. Then a quick drive to the airport to drop them off and it was time for my train. Bloomin' thing didn't have a buffet car (nearly three hours from Glasgow to Aberdeen) and no warning beforehand so was parched by the time I got here. I can feel a complaint coming up.
Been showered and breakfasted. Off to find the place I'm meant to be at, have a good idea and will take the bus to it. Got my old biddy pass so may as well use it.
Hope things are fine for everyone and the BH had good weather
Happy Monday.0 -
Happy bank holiday Monday :0) and yes it is all wet outdoors here in Hampshire - so has been raining.
Yesterday OH and I went to a carboot sale. My second this year. The first only had a few cars and that was a month ago.
This one had plenty of cars with peoples unwanted belongings.
Dear OH said well after comming we have to buy SOMETHING?
I bought some new pink wool to knit baby cardigans.
A pink baby chair that plays music and has a toy bar across for expected grand daughter.
Nice to walk around the car boot sale but at the same time very aware of all the times I have spent decluttering our home.
Today we are going to a family gathering at another house.
Family s so important.
Time for breakfast = coffee and toast.
It is still raining here in Sussex! No dog walking along the coast then? The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here so not sure we will be going anywhere today. OH may as well go and get the sanding finished in the bedroom. We had friends over to visit yesterday which was lovely but it was a tiring day so I just went to bed once they had gone.
Today I need to get the wm going as there always seems to be more washing to get done after a weekend. I know we need to make more bread and the yoghurt is running low. No idea yet what I'm going to make for tonight's tea. I made lettuce soup yesterday which was really nice - surprisingly tasty - and there is enough left over for a small starter:
http://www.reluctantgourmet.com/lettuce-soup-recipe/
I want to bake some biscuits so will have a look in the recipe collection to see what takes my fancy and there's also a bit of ironing to get through so all in all not such a busy day but enough to keep occupied
Never got the chance to catch up with yesterday's thread so hope all are ok and you enjoy your bank holiday Monday2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000 -
Mornin' all
- looks like another typical BH Monday morning
. No rain as such yet, but it sure as heck doesn't look all that far away
.
Managed quite a good night's sleep for a change - bed by 11, only woke up once at 3, then again at 7 :j.
Sounds like everybody had good 'Family Days' yesterday - makes sense to do the 'BH thing' the day before :T.
Thanks for starting the thread, Ruby - enjoy your day of baking.
Hope your Freeglers turn up on time to collect, camelot.
Sorry to hear that you weren't too good over the weekend, candlelight - don't overdo things today.
Have a good day in Aberdeen, Gers - looks as though Scotland is getting the best of the weather.
Some bargains there, good advice - enjoy your day with family.
jlhmd - have a good day with the diy and baking.
I managed to get the privets/beech hedges trimmed yesterday, but it started to rain, so I left the trimmings where they were and came in. Will have to remember to clear them up later this morning. Also trimmed some overhanging branches from next-door's Cherry Tree - it's up against our joint privet hedge, so can become a bit of a nuisance. It makes the corner by my porch very dark/damp and the paving there is always covered in 'slimey green stuff' and the grass is mostly moss. We have to go that way to get to the bins and in Autumn/Winter it's not very pleasant at all.
DS1 found a petrol lawn mower in one of the empty properties that he's looking after. Everything inside the building had been 'signed over' to the Housing Association, so he asked permission to take it. It's now mine :j. He put some petrol in it, and tested it and it works great, so I can now deal with the furthest part of the garden where the leccy one/extension lead won't reach - just need a petrol strimmer now!
The 2nd Blueberry/Lemon Cake from yesterday turned out brilliantly - especially given that it had a 'false start' with the baking. We'll have a piece of that later for 'Afternoon Tea'.
Plans for today include: -- Mum's funeral is tomorrow, as it's been so long since first arranging, I need to ring a couple of cousins/uncles to remind them/check if they're still able to be there.
- Ring DSis who got back from holiday last night - I've heard from her DD that she's had a rough time while away. Maybe she'd have been better not going away, so she'd have had the rest of the family for support
.
- Salad for evening meal tonight - will get a couple of HB eggs on to go with it. Better take some sort of 'cooked meat' out of the freezer as well.
- Clear up the remains of the hedge-trimming.
- Then it's feet-up and see what 'usual rubbish' is on TV for August Bank Holiday
.
Right now, I'm off to make another coffee and have a piece of toast with marmalade.
I'll pop back in again later to see how everybody is getting on - luv Lilyplonk xx0 -
LILY I hope everything goes as well as it can tomorrow, you have had a fair time to wait haven't you? I am sure you will be sending her off in style.
Much love

Lilyplonk In case I don't see you before, I hope all goes well tomorrow xx
I've registered on the Rowan website. There's a lot on there, I may get lostHave decided I need to learn how to convert knitting patterns to crochet. Not sure there's lessons online or even if it's an official thing, but I know some people can do it so there must be something somewhere.
I have names for the two littlies – Peanut and Coco
It's raining here and I think it's going to carry on all day. I was hoping to clear out that border then start arranging pots, rocks etc on it. I'm willing to rearrange many times until I get it rightThat'll have to wait. So I'm not sure what I'm doing today, I'm sure it'll involve crochet at some point though

Hello x
We started our declutter yesterday - 1 hour and I was shattered. Anyway my bedroom looks a bit better but still needs some work. My husband had moved loads of stuff when the ambulance men came so they could get me out (a very good reason to have a tidy bedroom) and I had "lost" loads of bits and was blaming my children (well adults). Anyway they came to light
Today I am going to work on my chair side table and the mantlepiece and fire as it needs a good tidy and dust - I foresee the fire will be on soon so want it to work ok.
OH has gone to Reading to fetch my rather damp son no2 and son no3 should arrive home later. Smelly boys:eek::eek::eek:
It's pouring with rain here so doggies are sulking. Molly stuck her nose out of the door and decided against it - she does have a cast iron bladder though:eek: She will be ceremoniously chucked out in an hour though!
