8GB for £2.99.
A slow drive, but I'm guessing that speed is not important.
USB 3.0 for £4.49, if you have a USB 3.0 port on the laptop, is a little faster0 -
Thanks, Googler. but, as Laz123 has said, I'm not savvy enough, I'm afraid! It's something I want to do but whenever I research how to do it, I am confounded by the jargon! Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, though!
Laz123- I can type professionally on these things until the cows come home, and I can sort really minor issues out but, when it all gets technical, you are so right, I'm not even semi-techie!
NiftyDigits; you are right, I'm not worried about speed, just getting the task achieved. Thanks for the links; I will take a look.
Thanks to everyone that has replied to my post which I only put on here earlier this morning; I've had some really useful suggestions.

Do you have both PCs connected to the Internet via a router? A BT homehub, or something similar?0

Hi Googler - my desktop is attached to the router via the cable, and my laptop is wireless. I should mention that I live in France and that my service is with Orange via a Livebox.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

why can't you just install dropbox on both?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

So you're halfway there. Right-click on the folder you want to copy stuff from on one machine, and select Sharing. Set it to be shared on your network. Do the same with the folder you want to copy to on the other machine.
On one of the machines, open up the sending folder and the target folder. Copy/paste.

Googler, yes I do, very much so. I'll give it a go later on today using your instructions, and let you know how I get on.
Thanks for the advice!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:
