I am not very tech-minded but would like to know if there is a way that I can transfer the photos I have on my old desktop (Windows XP), on to my laptop (Windows 7). Is it possible to do this with a card reader?
Many thanks in anticipation!

Sure it is, just drag and drop the photos onto the card in your desktop, put the card in your laptop and reverse

Thank you very much, Nodding Donkey (love the name!) for such a quick reply. I've been looking at card readers on Amazon, so will go and order one now.
Thanks once again. Have a good day!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Or a flash drive will do.0

Thanks, Laz123 - I'll take a look at flash drives, too. As I say, I am not very tech-minded, so I thought I'd ask on here before I bought anything; I always get such good advice on this forum!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Hang on a minute, I thought you already had a card reader. If you haven't you'll need a card as well. Like Laz123 says a usb flash drive will be easier and cheaper. You could also use your mobile phone if you can connect it.0

Nodding Donkey, I do not have a card reader, I just have the SD card that I use in my Nikon camera, and a data cable that I use to put photos from my mobile phone on to my laptop (for some reason, it won't work on my desktop). I hardly use the desktop any more because I have the laptop, but there are lots of photos on both PCs, so I am looking for a way of having the photos all in one place. You can tell I am not technically-savvy!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

So no back up then...
A USB flash drive is the simplest way of transferring them, but it's not suitable for archiving or back up-for that you need an external hard drive or cloud storage. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for your reply, Macman - it sounds like I'll need both to make sure I've covered everything I want to do.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Connect them both to the same network, set up shared folders, and copy/paste ....0
