Rather than not buy anything and upset your OH, how about a compromise that promotes the family meaning of Christmas. You could buy each family a board game (monopoly etc) so ti's only one gift to the family which will save money, a gift is still given to please OH and it encourages them to spend time together as a family.

ok heres my take on onion marmalade.........4 medium onions chopped,4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar,4 tablespoons honey/brown sugar. in a pan put a blob of butter and melt and slow fry onions, also can add acrushed garlic clove at this point. add rest of ingredients and cook it down till a jam like consitancy. that's it. put in pot and keep in fridge. I make 5 times this amount depending on who its for. this yields 2 pots worth. I tend to add for Christmas either mixed spices or nutmeg again depending who its for cheap and easy xxx

Thank you for this, I appreciate you taking the time to post it :)

The kids have been warned and all except DD 22 (who is a spoilt princess - only DD with 3 brothers 24,20,18) are ok with it!

Love reading everyone's plans. Mrs LW - you have a great plan x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I am way behind this year! I have only 4 presents so far, big money boxes for my three kids (bought super cheap for last christmas and forgot about) a doll and dress set for dd and a onsie for dds Christmas Eve hamper. I usually 3/4 of the way through by now

I moved house a couple of weeks ago and need so much for the house, that christmas is probaly going to be a lower scale affair this year for extended family. Previously we have spent £20 each n birthdays and christmas for nieces, nephews and my younger brother. With two of their birthdays in December, this equals £160 I think I will suggest to my brothers and sisters that we only spend £10 each on the kids this year. My brother is in the process of moving and my sister is hoping to be moved before October, so I suppose were all in the same boat.

Im going to start regulary checking amazon and the argos clearance sections to see whats about for my kids. Big presents this year will be bikes for the older two and new scooter for the lo.

Ds1 birthday is 29th dec. we usually get him computer games/accessories for that and keep christmas for toys. So will keep my eyes open on the pre-owned section in game (he'd rather have lots of older cheaper games for the cost of a new release, guessing he's not going to have this frame f mind forever!)

Need to start a list on ideas on what to get everyone

Need wrapping papers this year as my stock was left in the old house.

Need lots of new decs as this house is bigger, meaning I can have both trees up but only have decs touse one atm. Also want garlands for fireplace and up the stairs.
I plan on making some decs too using salt dough felt, fabrics etc.

I would like to make a meal plan for the whole of December so I can start picking up freezer and cupboard supplies.

Need to check if dates are published yet for local events to mark them in my diary (we have a lunch with Santa at an hotel, local church hall does a pantomime (don't think I'll have the funds for the theatre this year:(), lights turning on etc)

Hubby has two weeks off at christmas (new job, last year he worked until 5pm xmas eve and started 6am Boxing Day) so that's a relieve and a pleasure.

So much to do! Feeling quite overwhelmed as I'm not used to being this late!!!!

Does anyone have any recommendations for best-buy mixed dried fruit for cakes & puddings? I generally buy SP or EV from Asda/Tesco, but wondered if Aldi or Lidl were cheaper, as I will be making 2 puddings & at least 1x8", 6x6" and 6x4" cakes (some are gifts, some are paid-for orders).

    Hi All

I am going to be doing chutneys/jams and boozy marmalade, xmas cakes and puddings to sell at car boots over Nov/Dec. I am going to be on holiday xmas week - for the first time ever.

We always do homemade hampers for family - if anyone would like my baileys cheesecake or salted caramel chocolate brownie recipes or dark chocolate and cranberry fudge recipe- let me know.

I also do a good mincemeat based on a nigella/delia mash-up I created years ago.

I have already bought my older children's main present.

I have started making xmas bunting as that sells well and is good for decorating stalls

Looking forward to reading all your xmas posts
