Hi de hi,
I don't really know what we're doing for Christmas yet but I started with buying bits and bobs for family a couple of weeks ago.
I got my sister in law a set of ear warmers with headphones and touchscreen gloves at Mr T's. I'm pretty sure she'll like them and Mr Mai is going with my suggestion after last years' success.
I bought her a fleece onesie which he said she'd hate but she's quite committed to saving money and is self proclaimed as tight with the heating so she absolutely loved it.
I'd quite like to have a quiet Christmas with a goose rather than turkey but whether I'm going to get that is yet to be seen!"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

I have just made 3 more jars of pickled red cabbage for my hampers.
MAITANE I would like to forgo the turkey this year, but I don't know how the family would re-act. I would be quite happy with a nice piece of beef and a gammon joint.

Candlelight - pickled red cabbage, YUM! It's amazing with lobscouse.
I think I would stick with some pork still as well, I quite like the old coca-cola ham especially for picking at as leftovers but the idea of cold goose is also pretty appealing.
Has anyone had any joy in convincing the family to move away from tradition? If so, can you share how you did it?"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

We went with a goose a couple of years ago and it was gorgeous but pricey. We all love our turkey though so look forward to it. We always have a pot roast brisket too, normally cooked in home made elderberry wine (but I'm yet to find enough elders to make into wine this year)
I managed to pick up some table presents a few days ago - we don't bother with crackers any more but I make a little bag for each person having Christmas dinner with us - normally a couple of jokey bits, a few chocolate coins and a scratch card....we've had a winner every year so far (that's just jinxed that!).
I've completed 2 swaps with other crafters and have a couple more in the pipe line, I've got some lovely gifts so far from it."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
None of mine like turkey so I stick with the brisket which they do like. I've got a really good farm butchers shop I use that is actually on the farm where the animals are reared and they have the facilities to hang the meat properly so the brisket is 3 to 4 weeks matured and the most amazing deep mahogany red colour and perfectly lean too. it's usually under £10 a kilo so £25 gets you a good sized joint with lots left over for cold cuts after christmas day, along with lots of very tasty gravy to use up too, it's what you like best on christmas day isn't it?0

Yayyyyyyyy. So glad it turned out for you I love it,I have it with everything. And to the person who was asking I use any onions I have red, brown whatever xxx
Honestly, it's so nice I will make it again. Even OH was impressed with it. I want to look out for some little jars now so that I can give it to others as gifts2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000 -
POOKY I always do table presents as well instead of crackers.
Last year EGD and I made the candy cane sledges piled high with presents (sweets or chocs wrapped in Christmas paper). These went down really well and EGDs boyfriend wouldn't open his because he wanted to take it home as it was:) Lovely boy.
Only thing is I have to think of something different every year. I did think of scratch cards a few years ago but we didn't think son in law would approve, but the children are all grown up now so might put one in a little box with a few chocs and something else.

I have just thought I might do pots of gold and put a scratch card with it for the table presents.

It's lush. Also known as Scouse for me and Lobscows in my OH's family. It tastes like comfort but there's the old arguement about whether it should be made with beef or lamb.
I quite like it in between Christmas and New Years as a break from poultry and normally because it's freezing outside."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.
