I never ever mind, I would use anything you have that is a fortified wine or a spirit so sherry, port, whisky , brandy or rum not gin though, wrong flavour entirely. I push a thin skewer in all over the top of the cake to make channels the liquid can run into and them use a tablespoon to very gradually drizzle the alcohol evenly over the top of the cake, you can see it soaking in and pour accordingly. When it's soaked in wrap your cake up in foil and seal it well then keep it in a lidded tin until you need to feed it again, once or twice a week is enough to give you a lovely flavourful cake. Thank youI am going to make a Christmas cake this year now

JLHMD I should have said in that last post only drizzle a couple of tablespoons of alcohol of your choice over the cake each time you feed it, any more than that and you'll end up with a soggy cake. Good girl, give it a go, you can't go wrong with a good homeade christmas cake. Be careful with oven temperature too, and use lowest option rather than higher as a christmas cake can sometimes catch on the top due to the very long cooking time. Keep an eye on the cake and if it's getting too brown on top cover over the top of the the tin with some foil to finish the cooking time.0

I've done my virtual Argos shop for the LO's toys in preperation for when they do the 3 for 2 toy sale. Saves time and just input the codes so get the items rather than trawling through and by time I find something it's gone!NOT BUYING IT 2018!
Consumerism is.....buying things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't know and probably wouldn't like even if you did know them.0 -

Are they still £5 and what wait are they this commercial exploitation season?
Yes most stores have them for £5, although they were recently on offer in Co-Op 2 for £8.
The size is now 335g to 780g depending on which tin you get.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

I finally bought something two chocolate oranges last nigh for only £1 each at Mr M. Nearly everyone had two tubs of chocs not for me they are more than last year and markedly small would not call them big tins any more.
I think we prefer bars anyway. I cut down presents last year when our income took a nose dive. Why is that the government thinks it costs me over £150 a week to keep a young adult and only £57 once he leaves school No Mr Cameron he costs more he, eats more uses more electronics and he costs me a fortune in fares to job interviews, clothes, shoes and fares for wild goose chases the job centre send him on not to mention the constant hour long waits on the phone to the job centre only for them to close.0 -
Picked up a little extra gift for cat-mad SIL in a charity shop yesterday - a cute bone china mug with an adorable little kitten on it! Unused as it still has the sticky label on the side. 99p and, once in a tissue padded little box, will look far more expensive!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. I've started writing out my lists / plans today and am feeling really excited for Christmas this year. I'm hardly ever organised but perhaps this year I won't feel so overwhelmed by it all thanks to this thread2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000

If the charity shop won't take it offer it on your local freecycle/ freegle group. Or does your area have a free page on Facebook, you could offer it there, or sell it on Facebook.
Did some pressie shopping yesterday which finishes one side of the family that we will be visiting in October. We usually get a nice tin of biccies for the adults of the family then something each for the kiddiwinks. We got some nice M&S belgian biccies at 2 for £7 which look lovely and some bits and bobs for the little ones. Haven't spent loads, well under what I budget for so very pleased. I also use bags for life most years to put the family gifts in, it costs a bit more but at least they are sturdy and can be useful all year round. This year Sainsbobs have some nice hessian type bags with ring handles they are £2 each but they are part of the family gift so I always include them in my budget. With Our Thoughts. Got a few bits today-have started off the 'pamper hampers' for my mum and MIL. Got day and night face creams and hand creams from Aldi for both, and also some of their own brand shampoo & conditioner just for my mum. Also tried out the perfumes in Lidl but ended up buying one for me rather than for them!! I know one of theirs often comes up on their half price weekends so I'll wait to get that just in case it does.
The shops have definitely kicked off their Christmas campaigns-my local B&M had a couple of aisles of Christmas wrap and bags and gifts!! Lidl have also started stocking frozen turkeys, crowns and their 3 bird roasts. I still don't know where we are spending Christmas this year, although I really would like it to be at home!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0
