Speeding offence

Not been following the thread have you?
This is the "game" described by PenguinJim and referred to by brat:
Personally, I love driving, and I love the rules. I love the challenge of
getting from A to B in the fastest time possible within those rules.
Breaking the speed limit, driving through a red light, making an illegal
manoeuvre are the equivalent of entering a cheat code on a video game - they
just show that you're not very good, that you lack the skills, and need to cheat
to "win".
Now I suspect the rules referred to are the law and the highway code.
For reasons best known to his/herself brat ignored the fact that the "game" was played within those rules. brat should know what advanced driving is as he/she claims to be an advanced driver.
Anyone driving according to the "rules" ie law/highway code will be driving within the speed limit and at an appropriate speed for the road conditions. Add to that, 'making progress' and that's all advanced driving is.0 -

The only rules in the highway code are those that say you MUST/MUST NOT do something and the relevant law is quoted usually in the same passage.
Those that say "should/should not" are guidelines...
E.g.287
If another person is injured and you do not produce your insurance certificate at the time of the crash to a police officer or to anyone having reasonable grounds to request it, you MUST
report it to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours
produce your insurance certificate for the police within seven days.
Law RTA 1988 sect 170
The sections relevant to speed limits are 124 (must not exceed posted speed limits) and 125 (should not drive at inappropriate speeds).
I don't doubt that you're probably right, but the word "rule" is too strong a word for most of what is in the highway code.
As an aside, driving at 80mph on a quiet motorway in the middle of the night is illegal, but driving 30mph in a cul de sac with parked cars all around and kids playing is perfectly legal so long as you don't cause an accident.
What kind of backwards society do we live in?What will your verse be?

No, not at all. If the object of the game is to try to get the fastest time, there is always going to be a compromise when the optimum speed becomes a personal assessment within the limit.
If you had an objective to get from A to B in the quickest possible time within the rules, which involved travelling through a residential road with children playing.
If you chose to travel at 25 mph and a child ran into your path causing you to react quickly and brake, but still collide at 20mph, you would be unlikely to be prosecuted.
However, had you been travelling at 19mph and the child ran out at the same distance from you as before, the impact is unlikely to occur.
So, given that you want to get from A to B as quickly as possible within the rules, do you drive at 25mph or 19mph?Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

Check the Highway Code for what are described as rules. So, given that you want to get from A to B as quickly as possible within the rules, do you drive at 25mph or 19mph
You drive in accordance with Rule 146 of the H.C. Have a look at Rule 152 if it helps.
I don't disagree with what you are trying to say. However if you want to say something then just say it. Don't attempt to manipulate another's post (PenguinJim) in order to do so.0 -
Most drivers will default to the fastest speed that feels safe for the road and the conditions, that's why unrealistically low speed limits set without other road modifications can be dangerous.0

What totally pi55is me off is that there are many untaxed illegal Polish reg vehicles that are totally untraceable one come past me on the M5 doing 90 plus in a 60 restricted they won't get done because I very much doubt its traceable yet I do 35 in a 30 and I get three points and a £100 fine a few weeks ago in Dorset they had a zero tolerence one driver was flashing people coming the other way warning them of the plod round the corner yet in the traffic was a unmarked car deliberately watching for people doing this he was pulled and fined for warning other motorists if the police put as much effort into tackling crime only got to look at the child abuse up north story and stop raping the motorist at every opportunity etc
You will always get young kids driving like clowns no matter what0 -

So you are quite happy for speeding and illegally flashing lights.
Just as long as its UK drivers?
If people could be trusted not to break motoring laws, then Police could be freed up for those unrelated crimes you threw in the mix.0 -

Use the Freddie Flintoff defence.
And sorry but doing 51 in a 30 is not something that can be excused.
He was nearly doubling the speed limit.
As an example the accepted rule of thumb for blue light responders is 20mph over a limit in a built up area.
If a Police car is caught at that speed they would have to explain themselves.
If he is not banned i will be surprised.
But certainly he could ask for his personal circumstances to be taken into consideration.
Length of time driving will likely go against him. As he has the experience to know it is not on so don't focus too hard on that.
Simply focus on why he needs the licence as that is what will prevent a ban.

You are very innocent as to what is actually occuring in many areas of the UK.
Never lose that innocence.
But the poster you are having a pop at is correct.
Christmas Day 2009 i was rear ended when en route to a 999 call.
The drunken driver of the Lithuanian registered BMW 3 series had already screamed off up a sidestreet narrowly missimg a minicab who managed to get the first few digits and the factnit was on an LT plate.
Further investigations revealed that a car matchinf that description totalled 3 or 4 parked cars about a miles away soon afyerwards.
The driver was so drunk he couldn't walk.
And this is before we get on the subject of cars being taken by the lorry load to Eastern Europe to be registered there and then driven back into the UK to be used or indeed sold on to criminals to provide a way to drive around with inpunity.
Wy not go the whole hog and accuse him of racism0
